NO POWER - LOOKING FOR REASON WHY
I have a 2000 L that seems like a toad compared to you all. I read where most of you can lite up you rear tires off the line & some even say they smoke them through 2nd gear. I have never been able to spin the wheels at all, not even for 6 inches. I have also read where many of your 1/4 mile times were in the low 14 to mid 13 seconds when your trucks were basically stock. Mine is usually around 15.5 seconds 95 MPH, with the best at 15.32 seconds 96.3 MPH.
I don't have a drag strip near by, so mostly go the the speedometer. When the truck was new I would usually be around 98 MPH at the end of the 1/4, installing JBA Headers seemed to help. I have now removed the stock muffler & installed two Walker Dynomax's & installed a Snugtop. Now it seems to be even slower, but I have never been able to break the tires loose since day one.
Any comments?

When my tires break loose, I can't hear them at all - but I can smell them. (Probably 40 years of jet engine noise has had a minor effect on my hearing.) Sometimes the only way I can tell that they are spinning is if I'm going sideways and hadn't planned on it. Get a chip and filter - if they don't smoke your tires, nothing will. I have never heard mine chirp but I've certainly felt them slide.

My tires are just flat not spinning. I do most of my "tests" on blacktop roads and have never seen any rubber marks plus it feels like a dog at the low end then come's on strong at higher RPM's.
I know I need a chip & filter. Waiting for Sal to start taking orders again. But even a chip & filter won't do that much when you start out at 15.5 seconds.

Check the Parking Brake or The blower belt(if its on). God Im a Smart Azz. Sorry about that it just comes out!
If it runs in the mid-low 15`s I would go to the dealership and tell thim its theres tell they figure out why its 1.5-2 seconds slower then all of the others. Some of the older stangs had a rear end problem, it got to loose and just flat out lost alot of power and they had to have them reshimd and tightend back up, Im not sure we have to worry about this tho. There is deffently a problem here. I wonder what the truck is dynoing at?

I would like to put her on a dyno, but I don't know of any here in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't mind driving a few hundred miles to Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma or eastern Kansas if anyone has access to a dyno.
Old Kid 00:
If you are serious about driving to a dyno, give Steve a call at Houston Performance. He not only has a dyno but can burn you a custom chip. His phone number is: 281-893-6080. He is located on the northwest side of Houston off Hwy 249 and Beltway 8. The drive would be worth the trouble for a Lightning running in the 15's. Plenty of places to stay close by and easy to get to coming in on Interstate Hwy 45 from Kansas.

Something is WRONG ! My first day home I was trying to impress my friend and slamed it,
Spun the tires and the truck went sideways,
at the strip better traction but it still spins from and idle, no need to break torque. Please let us know what it turns out to be.

Old Kid, you don't mention how many miles you have on your L. These motors are extremely tight until they are well broken in (3000+ miles). Mine barely broke the tires loose until I had over 2K. If you're past break in I'd try a dyno to see if you're really down on power. Lots of dyno shops in the D/FW area, but I'd bet you can find one in Ks. with a little research.
Just woke UP
1BADTK - Thanks for your input. If I can't find anyplace closer, I will give Steve a call.
noelvm - That didn't work either. Are you sure it's three times
dorgun1 - Yes I apparently do have a problem. I can spin them during brake torque, but as soon as I let off the brake it stops spinning.
Moonshine - That's another thing that bothers me. She seems to get slower with more miles. I have 4,500 on her now.

Mine ran 13.9 and I rarely see or feel any wheel spin. ( (I need to run with the windows down more often - To try to hear it )I have 5000 miiles on it. On one hand I am concerned that others have more power but, I know 13.9 is respectable and the dyno runs me and Moonshine and sixpipes did show that mine is making power. I am confident that if mine hadnt pulled righyt off the highway traffic onto the dyno I would have been even with the other stock Lightning.
If I have the same power and ET's as my bretheren and my tires will last longer that is ok with me.
Having said that - I have 3.73 gears, chip and filter on order.

Kid,
A couple of months ago I posted basically the same thing you did. On blacktop I would get no spin at all. For my 2000 L I think it was 2 things (maybe). The engine needed to loosesn up a little, and the chip in the 2000 is different than the 1999. i now have 2000 miles on my L, and the wheels will spin a little on cement. I took the spare tire and tailgate off and went to the drag strip. I spun my wheels too much there. My best time was 13.77 and 98MPH. Since it is running good times, maybe the chip in the 2000 is programmed to reduce tire spin from the launch. Are there other 2000 L owners out there with 2000 or less miles that have a lot of wheel spin with no mods???

I have a 00 L with the following mods, Flowmaster mufflers, Superchip and a K&N replacement filter. Before the mods I could not burn my tires at all. After the mods getting traction is hard to come by. If I hit WOT from a dead stop by truck will all but sit there and spin. My truck will now bark the tires when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I would say that all you need is to change the chip and exhaust. The first week I had my L, I replaced the factory muffler with a dual Flowmaster mufflers. This really made a big difference in the way my truck perfromed. Next I put in the K&N filter and Superchip and all I can say is WOW. This is not the same truck. Actually it performs better than I would have ever thought it would with only the above mods. Take Care, HANKFAN
So..... are all stock 2000 L's having problems spinning their tires. Were the 00's programed different that the 99,s to reduce tire spin from launch? Are there any other 00's that are 15+ seconds in the 1/4?
Red,
I know how you feel, when I fist got my L it didn't even chirp the tyres. That was brand new and 110 degrees outside.
After 3000 miles I would consider my L average in power, and it smokes all through 1st until 2nd kicks in (I have a underpowered chip IMO). Remember from 1-2 the engine at WOT cuts 4 cyclinder off, so I would like to see a unchiped L do this.
Also check you intercooler fluid, is it empty? If so run to your dealer and have your intercooler replaced.
