Anyone have a Lightning in Oregon
Anyone have a Lightning in Oregon
Well im headed to Oregon for school and was wondering for anyone who has an L there how they do with the rain. Mine is a DD so i would have to drive in rain. Im thinking maybe a mustang would be better but i dont know.
travman, welcome to Oregon. There are enough people with good comon sense even in Oregon to own Lightnings. During the rain season (Nov - April) just put a 2 x 4 under the loud pedal. If you are comming to Portland there is Portland International Raceway (Wed Fri and Sat) and 40 miles south Woodburn Raceway (Fri Sat and Sun). There are several 12 second daily drivers around town.
Most of the main group that had them in Oregon I think have since moved, or moved on. There was a good local section on NLOC. PALO I think it is? I think it is just about dead though. I remember getting about 6 or so fellas to show up for a get together a few years back. Good luck.

Sunny Southern Oregon here! Heck, Southern California has got much more rain than has come down here this season. Our average is only about 19 in per year anyway. Way different than the central and northern part of the state. C'mon down!
im headed to the University of Oregon my uncle(who lives in Eugene) says that the rain hasnt been as bad as it used to except for last season he said it rained the normal amount. Im also scared about parking it around other college kids...who arent the best drivers.. plus i would have to make the trip from NJ to Oregon which is a loooong trip. But you guys who live there think its worth it? i dont think i could part with her anyway.

Sweet! I go U of O... f**k OSU!!! (where Birdy goes) anyway, I don't have an L, but have always been a BIG fan and probably will own one in the next couple years. I have a 98 5.9 litre grand cherokee with heads, cam, bolt ons, etc... should run mid to low 13s, but havent gotten it to the track since I did the cam and heads. I am a sophomore. About the other people and parking, first week or so I was there I had my front plate stolen, then in the Spring a girl who barely spoke any english rear ended my Jeep with a rental car while it was parked at like 4am, luckily she or someone who saw it called campus safety, and the rental company's insurance covered the damage. I've seen a few lightnings around Eugene and a see more at home in Portland. Portland International Raceway is probably a little under 2 hours from campus, so... 1 hour and 15 in the L?
Portland also has Krazy Koncepts (www.Krazykoncepts.com) I have heard mixed reviews from guys on here, a friend of mine had his L chipped, pullied, and had an FTVB put it by them and I've driven his L a few times... it's fun!
Not that I am a weatherman, but I doubt eugene weather is that much wetter then NJ. It wasn't too wet this fall/winter and when it is stay off the throttle.
Go ducks... maybe we'll hit up the track or something next year.

Rob, i heard that its hard to find a parking spot even though they give you a permit...do you ever have trouble finding a spot and is it worth it freshman year to have a car. Next year def hittin up the track. Ha see u there.

Sometimes it rains for days at a time here in Oregon and the roads get saturated with water. Our freeways are not in the best of shape - (old concrete style with lot's of ruts) I drive a tractor/trailer combo up and down I-5 corridor, and see wrecks EVERY time it rains. Most people have no idea how many wrecks occur because they get cleaned up so quickly.
You should be ok with the Lightning in rainy Oregon as long as keep your speed down on the freeway when it's raining. Some stretches of freeway are paved with asphalt, but the bridges and overpasses are always concrete. Most of the wrecks I see are on the bridges and overpasses. When the vehicle hits the expansion joint it jumps up a little bit and right onto the standing water, then wammo....... your playing tag with the retaining walls.
I personally don't drive mine in the rain, I don't like the way big fat tires handle in the rain.

If you are a freshman you will not have trouble with parking really because there is a huge lot for overnight parking, to park there you must live in the dorms, and with that parking pass you can park in many other spots around campus. It is hard to find a spot around campus though, but if you will be in the dorms it won't be a problem.
Thanks guys and Neodymium2000 the roads there are heaven compared to the roads here in new jersey. Im no idiot in the rain and i take it easy so i guess i should be ok..Rob thanks for the info on parking. See ya there
My L was my DD for 3 years. The only time it stayed in the garage was the rare snow day. Keep decent tires and don't drive like an idiot and the weather is no issue. Be sure to make a run up the coast (HWY101), you won't go back to NJ.

biggest mistake I've ever made but oh well. Where in oregon are you going to school?
