Question Those of you w/ Flows...

I was at a local cruise yesterday and had heard eough loud exhausts coming in and going out that I have decided on change to a FLowmaster muffler(and tips).I'd like to know what size muffler I need and what series to get,I NEED that muscle car sound! My brother suggested "American Thunder",but I have not heard much of this accept from him.Any ideas are MUCH appreciated.

Thumbs down

From what I have heard the Flowmasters resonate alot on the trucks. I have had them on 5.0 stangs and loved them, but my muffler guy will not even put them on trucks, too many complanits. I'm going for Bassiani.

Here are some posts on the Flowmasters. Read mine to know what size they need on hand if you get them.

Screw the flowmaster. Get the Eldebrock 5512 RPM muffler. Great at low RPM, Great at WOT, not bothersome at normal cruise. Not a bad installation. At 2" shorter than the stock muffler, we hooked it to the headpipes and built new exhaust pipes to the tips and rewelded the hangars. I love the sound.

Do NOT get a dual in, dual out Flowmaster. One of the other members did and they aren't designed to handle that much flow and they made a loud blowing noise at WOT. Read my post on the link in my post above for size info.

Ok,no dual in/dual out.Got it. So in other words I'm lookin at spending some serious(300-400) dollars here? Counting TWO mufflers, and the labor to get them on correctly.Oh well, back to the drooli..I mean drawing board.

I still have a dual in/out single flowmaster muffler on mine. I am seriously starting to think it's costing me some HP. I'm gonna give Magnaflo 2 more weeks to come up with something otherwise I think I'll switch to the dual flowmaster set up. Check with Mufflex (online), they have the kit.

To quote Charlie Brown(God rest Charles Schultz) "AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!" I went to a "muffler" shop,I won't mention an names. Hold on I hafta sneeze,AHHH-MEINIKEE!
So at this un-named shop i was told they just set up a Lightning w/ the dual muffler set up and it would be $350-400! W/O the mufflers!!! Ummm,I don't think so. I told him I could learn how to wield and do it myself for 400 bucks. Next up are the more local shops.400 bucks, Maybe if I was on crack!

Call around. It was $280 around here so I drove 45 minutes and got them for $200 installed.

Cool

Sounds like they have valuable equipment there that might be susceptible to UV radiation. Hopefully you were kind enough to instruct them to store it where the sun doesn't shine. Like I had said before my Flows were $80 apiece and $40 labor for <1 hour install time.

4d Thunder,
If I continue to find prices like those I got yesterday I may drvie down to VA just to have them installed!!!
I checked at Mufflex.com and they have a nice set up w/ the flows, already together, three in chrome pipes...like $425! No way,the mufflers are b/w 60-80 bucks! Chrome tips, what maybe 50,if I don't keep the stick ones. How could labor be 350-400? VA here I come!
