2000 lightning news(please read!)(superchip)CALLING MIKE TROYER
I had a long conversation with mike troyer from superchips.A very in depth conversation as usual. He is very smart and is always looking to talk about the lightnings. Not just selling chips.Truly a nice person.
This might be a little off but im pretty sure it is exactly what he said.He explained that the 2000 computer has a real rich air/fuel ratio compared to 99.This makes it harder to tune than the 99s.Also the 2000s seem to be alot more consistant with power and computer codes. The 99s were all over the place. He said the 2000s are not giving as much HPs as the 99s with the chip but they are much more consistent and he thinks the majority of the bugs are out for the Lightnings in both years. The chip still works great but seems to work almost the same on all trucks. This is actually a good thing.HP is only off by a couple but all the other characteristics are the same.He said the air /fuel ratio is actually too much fuel from the factory. He thinks they did this to fight chip makers .Also because some people are really modding them so it is needed Kinda backward but??? Anyway i just ordered a 2000 lightning chip with 5600 shift point and 5900 rev limiter.Hope it works well.My other ine worked great when it worked.I am still waiting for Sal to start intakes again.I will be buying one for certain.I think this will be the ultimate combo for the money.
Mike if I am wrong please tell us more info.Im going on memory here.Could you please type what you told me specifically.,Thanks .I feel it is good info,I would like you to share with all

I don't mean to be noisy but how come you traded your 99 ?
It ran real well. Didn't like the color or something ?
Thanks for passing on the info, I always learn something on this site.

Lightningquick- Did you order the CUXR2 program, only with a modified rev. limit ceiling? I was told the standard program was 5600shift with a 5750 rpm rev. limit (which seems awfully close). Do you know what any of the other programmers are setting their chips up for on the 2000L? (PSP and Swanson)?
Dorgun,
I had a white 99 that ran like a scalded ape.I sold it to invest into my buisness.First off,I sold it for more than I paid for it new and got my money back for the chip,Resulting in driving a brand new Lightning for 7600 miles for basically interest on the loan! How many cars can you do that with???
The reason I got a new (white)2000 is actually two reasons.
1.After I sold mine,I found out that next year SVT is stopping production of white Lightnings.I only wanted a white one.My local dealer was only getting in 1 for this year so I took delivery the day it arrived. It was 3 weeks after I sold mine.I had to have a white one again,I planned on a 2001 but Things happen and plans change.
2.On the way to the dealership(who paid me more used than i paid new??!!)I was really wondering if I was doing the right thing.I almost turned around one time after watching so many people starring at my truck.I kept going and I sold it.On the way home I actually had a tear in my eye realizing I made a bad decision.Money is one thing buy Happiness is more important. My Lighting made me happy.Fot the next 2 weeks I was miserable and looked everywhere for a new truck but I could not find anything that compared to my lightninig.I was actually depresses,Sitting on my couch ,my wife asking if I was going to make it or what.I know its only a truck but I had an emotional attachment too it.I was miserable to say the least.I could not concentrate on buisness or anything.I'm sure some of you reading this are laughing but You wont know till its gone.I found out my dealer was getting in one white one,I put $5000 down waiting for arrival ,Got it and Ive been happy ever since!!!!
BacFord,
I got my chip from Mike troyer. It is a CUXR2
It is a 5600 shift point with a 5900 rpm limit. So far it is working great. It shifts way harder than my 99 chip and Im very happy so far.I hope it continues to work good.

LQ- Did you tell Mike T. you wanted the standard program, or did you specify the 5900 rev. limiter? I am glad to see you are happy with the chip. How are the shifts at normal traffic speeds? Do they snap also, or only when you mash it?

I don't get a chance to make it down here too often, so it was just luck that I happened to see this thread "paging" me.
With regards to the upshift point versus the rev limiter in the 2K Lightning....
BACK2FORD does have a point, in that the first Superchip program for the 2K Lightning didn't have any more "headroom" between the WOT upshift point and the rev limiter than the factory program. We did see one 2K Lightning that that hit the rev limiter before the transmission could complete the upshift, as a result of having just too small an orifice size in the pressure control solenoid in the transmission, which wouldn't allow the transmission to flow enough fluid to shift quick enough with the power increase causing it to gain rpm's in first gear more rapidly. Sometimes it just takes some time to see numerous examples of a vehicle all across the country in many different situations before certain quirks are start showing up, a pattern begins to emerge, and then somthing new is learned. Superchips has already had over a half-dozen 2K Lightnings on the dyno, and I'm sure that as time passes, we'll find out more about what triggers certain protection modes, etc., as we already have in the 1999.
There has been a significant amount of variance in shift quickness and firmness in these 4R100's behind the Lightning motor. About half ot them will "chirp" the tires on the WOT 1-2 upshift with the Superchip, and the other half, roughly speaking, will not.
If anyone has this problem, that is easily solved, as just yesterday I had Superchips make another program specifically for that, to allow more headroom between WOT upshift & rev limiter.
As Lightningquick mentioned, the 2K Lightnings have very different tuning needs as compared to the 1999's. I won't go into a lot of specifics, but suffice it to say that they are *extremely* rich in certain areas. That, and a couple other very basic yet fundamental differences between the CUX1 (1999) factory program and the CUX2 (2000) factory program requires them to be tuned much, much differently than the 1999's. In other words, you cannot take a program for the 1999 Lightning and "port" it over to a 2K Lightning, that will not work well without having noticeable problems rear their ugly little heads.
Overall, the Superchip for the 2K Lightnings is working very well. If Lightningquick is happy, I think most people will be, hopefully.

The shifts are almost normal at cruise speed. The only gear you really feel a change at normal speed is O/D.You can actually feel it shift rather than glide like normal. ALL of the delays before and after the shifts are history!!!!It is like scream/bang...Scream/bang...scream/bang.No more retarded timing and sloppy shifts. It is awesome.I just hope it continues to work this good. The shifts at wide open thottle are neck snapping shifts.Ive only got a chirp once but,They are firm and quick.I could ask for no more when it comes to shifting.Any harder and the truck would bog.I will post track times tonight if the weather is good enough to race.As far as the rev limiter ,I was told by Mike troyer,The new chips have a 300 rpm grace period from shift point to rev limiter in case the computer cannot shift in time with the normal 150 rpm like factory.I held mine once in second gear and it did go past my shift point a decent margin before it hit rev limiter.I will try again today and give you an exact # of rpms before shift and rev limiter.Mike said it was 5900,I hope he is right.
