I guess count me in as well. I vote for the 10" please. Now to figure out what color I want: I'm thinking red to match my truck, but there is the chrome...

lightning_svt,

i bought the chrome. it looks awesome. i was told they dont have it inthe 9 x 3.5 size so i'm opting for the red to match my bolt.

Major confusion. If Sal is furnishing the 3.5" x 9" PowerStack as Speedin Bob indicates, then why are we looking at 8" or 10" sizes? Put another way, if the 8" and the 10" fit, why not the 9"? I don't suppose it matters much if they all fit, so if they do put me down for the 9" 'Stack, stealth black color.

I need to ask a question. I have designed and build my own MAF meter ( 3.5 inch OD). I know that the filters come in that size diameter so if that is what is being ordered I would like to order 1 of each length (two filters) in RED.

My kit from Sal has the 3.5" x 9" (9" filter only, not rubber connection) filter, it was only $89 for the whole kit. if you are ordering the 3.5" filters, i'd like to get a spare.

Question

Um, I saw mention that the 10" filter "rests" on the edge? Wouldn't this be a bad thing? At high speeds, I'm sure minor vibrations will start to make an irritating rub there on the end that may have some adverse effects, no?

Hey guys, Sal here. There is a good reason that I sell the 9 inch and Autophyics does not offer one. Because they don't make the filter I use I've never actually heard of them, and am very surprised they are using the PowerStack name, since another company already uses it. And the place I get mine from does make them themselves, so it's not a related company.

On a different note, upon my return from the WFC, I am going to seriously CRANK on the filter kits. I despise this backorder thing, and I am going to work my butt off to get caught up and have them in stock. My apologies to all who have had to endure the wait for the kits. At least eveyone agrees it's worth the wait, that makes me feel better, but still no excuse for having to wait. See you at the WFC!!

Caught barking up the wrong tree... tricky. Could the powerstack we seek be the one by S & B?

Sorry. There has been some confusion between Autophysics and me regarding the filters. I just got off the phone with them and the following has been finalized.

The Big Mouth Cone filter not the Powerstack is what everyone should have. There was a mistake from Autophysics. Therefore they are not going to charge us the $5.00 shipping.

There are two sizes:

3 1/2x9 for $55.00 (retail is $72)
3 1/2x10 for $58.00 (fretail is $77)

Because of the HP of the L engine, Autophysics recommends the 10." They know that a very small part of the 10" filter will rest on the ledge that is in the box and they said that since the ledge is flat and does not have any ridges, there should not be any problem with wearing. But if one is concerned, order the 9" which will replace the K&N filter exactly.

The Big Mouth does not have a covering over the end of the filter therefore eliminating the disturbance that Sal talks about.

For those of you that have already e-mailed at jshaw90@msn.com, I will be getting back to you with the remaining info from Autophysics.

if anyone else is interested, e-mail me a note so I can respond back with more info.

Is the maintenance on the filter unit the same as the K&N. Use a cleaner, and then oil?

Thanks

BTW, do you really think there will be the slightest measureable difference between the K&N and that filter? I wonder.

By looking over all of the filter post,Ive come to one conclusion which i will bring up in a minute. For now,I want to tell you without any flame how funny this all sounds.
Youve got some people who just spent $200 on an air aid unit who still want to spend another $50 on the same filter Sal uses with his air intake. Then more people who are looking for the outer wear cover that is included with Sals intake. This is kinda funny. It almost seems like our lightnings dont come with an air box???
My conclusion is Sal uses the best filter with the best outer wear cover with the best intake tube. This would mean his intake is superior to all! It is also half the money you are all spending. My conclusion to my own truck is,I will live with my factory box until Sal starts producing these air intakes again. This will give me the ultimate intake at a cost which is great. My .02

Sky,

cleaning is the same as a K&N according to the dealer I spoke with. However, I was told the color of the "replacement" oil was Blue. Ford blue I hope. i'm sure you could use the K&N cleaning kit with little or no problems.

As far as measureable differneces. I don't know but keeping the air from resonating as it may occur with the K&N rubber end couldn't hurt. That is why i brought it up in a previous thread. check out http://www.autophysics.com for more info.

Quick,

Not to be a smart a$$ but the extra $50-60 over and above the cost of the Airraid is (for me) giving up a round of Golf one weekend. no biggy. I'll spend that time installing and testing it.

I like Sal's choice of filters and Airraid's "shielding" too. I'm not saying who's is better/worse. Since i brought the idea up https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003283.html I thought i would give it a go. never know until you try.

Peace
