A friendly call for MAD
JIGAWATT:
Mad will believe you!!!
As i understand it, The main question here is this.
There are a few here that have or had 13.0's@104-105 in their Sig.
Saying they ran those times and MPH with just a Chip and K&N air filter (assuming factory replacement type)
I for one have my doubts that's possible!
(Did not say impossible)
With gears, slicks, exhaust..Hell YES and as you've shown Faster!!
I was refraining from posting on this subject, because everyone would flame ME
F1car:
as per the previous post, if that was your only purpose,to rile Mad! then you have my apology!

Hello all..
Ok.. this is getting kind of silly..
Bottom line.. Talk is cheap.. If you want to see what is up.. take it to the line.. People will tell you all the time that their car or truck has run 13.0's.. then get beat by a Honda..
Talking about ET's and all that other stuff is cool.. I personaly believe the times people have been posting.. but when it is time to race all that stuff goes out the window.. Who ever gets to the finish line first wins.. Enough said..

Sal, you are wrong.. I have years of experience running an engine dyno with mostly turbocharged engines and N/A engines.
The engineering standard is
Torque X RPM/5252. All of your degrading, IQ revealing, namecalling, will not change this fact. I suspect most of your backslapping buddies here with new Lightnings (unable and in-experienced at actually building race cars and engines) will be quick to agree with you. Too bad.....Maybe you might do yourself a favor by making a trip to your local library/ engineering section, to refresh yourself on HP vs. Torque which has been common knowledge for over 100 years.

Mad, Sal here. I am very familiar with many of the more common formulas regarding automotive performance. I use them sometimes, when I need an "estimated" figure to use a some kind of basis. But that's all they are good for. I think Gregg said it best when he said it would take years to correctly figure all the given factors into an accurate formula. You would need to factor in traction formulas, weather formulas, pavement compound formulas, drivetrain loss formulas, forced induction formulas, engine air flow formulas, wind resistace formulas, and many, many, many more before you could give a "set in stone" answer using a formula. Dyno numbers and formulas don't mean crap. If my truck dynoed at 500hp, but only for a short period, it would lose to a truck that dynoed only 400hp througout the rpm range. You also have to factor in shift points and convertor lock ups, as these make a big difference. They don't add hp, but they will decrease your ET. The point is that you are not factoring, and probably never could factor in, all the needed info to make a formula work. Your original post was questioning how a truck can go 13.20s with just a chip and filter. The filter allows more airflow and allows boost to come on sooner resulting in a more usable power range. The chip calibration does the rest, based on modified A/F ratios, timing, shift parameters and convertor lock up. This results in a very large gain, on a vehicle that was very conservatively calibrated from the factory. There is your answer. If you are looking for something other than what I have provided, I don't know if I can help. I can't see why anyone here would openly lie about their ETs, because there is no reason to. There is no secret as to what these trucks do. There are hundreds of informative posts on this subject. You seem to enjoy pointing out other peoples immaturity, when in fact, you are the one who shows the most. I don't have to defend myself or anyone else here from your comments of disbelief. We own these trucks, you don't. We know what they can do, and really could care less what some Cobra owner who comes off thinking he's better than us thinks. And until you do own one, you will obviously never know what you are missing. I have answered your original question, and I don't care to read this post anymore, as it is now just a waste of my time.

I see you are still in the namecalling and personal attack mode. It is hard to hold a decent conversation with a narrow-minded caveman sitting behind a monitor.
If you will notice I was speaking of an engine dyno and have been speaking of an engine dyno clear back to the example of the 1.5 liter BWM engine. Most race cars do not bother with chassis dynos because of reliability issues. All of the variables you mention have nothing to do with an engine dyno in a controlled atmosphere. I see you have no experience with such.
Your explatives really show your maturity and its a typical example of the "mine is bigger than yours" syndrome so prevalent on this board. Too bad, too sad.
As far as your derogatory Cobra remark, I have never made mention of a comparison between Cobras and Lightnings. That was created by you and one other person. I love all Hot Rods. Hell, I'm a Chevy guy that happens to own a Ford. I don't have a problem with that, do you?
I have not seen a Lightning near as fast as claimed on this board nor have I seen an LS1 run 12.90's stock as claimed by a few on LS1.com. That is all I am saying.
And for your secret Lightning formulas for HP, they are bull*****.

HP= torque X RPM/5252. Uh, I have all the documentation to back this up if you would like me to send it e-mail or post it here. Is a lightning engine any different than a turbocharged Formula one engine or Top Fuel dragster engine in this respect? NO.
I don't mean to belittle you on your automotive engineering knowledge, (and I will not stoop to namecalling), you are doing that to yourself. You may look like you know what you are talking about to the ignorant, (I gotta loan for my first fast vehicle) lightning owner, but you and I know different, right Sal?

For crying out loud, Mad, nobody is disputing the equation for HP. The point is it doesn't take 500 peak hp to push a Lightning through the 1/4 in the low 13's, No matter what your calculator says.
Looks like it's time to close this one out, guys. were not getting anywhere, and I can say from personal experience that sometimes we/I say things on here that make it difficult to play in the future. Why don't we just agree to disagree and move on.
I had told myself this didn't concern me and I wouldn't post, but I just can't help it when someone just can't get the point.
With that intro, Mad your still missing the point I think. Yes, the formula stated to get HP from torque is well known and quite valid all the time. And dyno runs can really help to see how a veicle will accelerate. What sal and others are trying to say is peak numbers extrapolated from the dyno run and any derived formulas that rely solely on those peak numbers are not at all guarenteed to give you anything near accurate results. I guess I just want everyone to be able to agree on that one subject.
Also for those interested here are a couple of interesting pages to read about torque and horsepower. I cannot vouch for the correctness of the information contained therein, but it made sense to me.
<one url had a "-" and wouldn't work, it wasn't as interesting anyway>
Dodge site, but you take info where you can get it.
<A HREF="http://www.allpar.com/eek/hp-vs-torque.html" TARGET=_blank> www.allpar.com/eek/hp-vs-torque.html

I think an interesting experiment would be to take some dyno runs from a lightning and do what they've done in the above site, just to see how much horsepower is on the ground at all times. And then compare it to some other car that seems to work with the calculators and see how much horsepower is on the ground for them all the way down the track. Might not clear anything up, but it seems like it's better that namecalling and trash talking.

4D THNDR--I never called everyone a liar. Can you copy and paste the message where I said everyone is a Liar? Who is the liar? The personal attacks from the brain challenged seem to abound on this board and they make the ones who have technical experience and advice look bad. Thanks to the ones (you know who you are) who can see past the testosterone slinging and offer good debate and technical discussion.

There is no technical reason for the lightning pulling 13.20sThis is our whole point.Speacking of technical,When we show you time slips and you say they are fudged,That is calling us liars.Cant you figure that out on your calculator?? LOL
