Question Question regarding first time to track

Will I need a helmet? Anything else? I have never legally dragged. Any info would be great.

Depends on the track on whether or not you will need a helmet. Better bring one just in case. You will also need long pants and a closed toe shoe(no sandals).

Most places dont require a Helmet unless you run in the 13's.

All depends on the track, most will require a helmet for anything quicker than 14.0.

Cool

If you tell the tech inspector you'll run in the 13's(I'm fairly certain you will ) he'll make ya get/borrow one(NHRA regs along w/pants,shoes). Call ahead, some rent helmets for a nominal fee. If they don't find out what helmet they require(Snell rating or DOT sticker). If ya can't get one just tell him ya don't know how fast then it's up to the timeslip guys to say something and I ran a bunch of times my first time there down to the 13.5's and no one said anything.

Hit it the minute you see the third yellow come on. A reaction time of .5000 is perfect. Anything less will result in a redlite. Try to be consistant. Get as many practice runs as you can. Where we go on Friday you can go round and round and make a run every 3-4 minutes. Good practice.

this is an 1/8 mile, you won't get as many runs at a 1/4 mile.

Drive around the water box, unless you're running slicks.

Turn your A/C off. You will be pulled from the line if you are leaking any fluids.

Actually it's your vehicle they worry about. If YOU leak fluids, no one cares unless it gets on the track.

What bad dog says is very important. As these trucks tend to drop water for awhile even after the A/C is turned off, I turn mine off 10 miles from the track to ensure all the water is out by the time I get there.

There are two sets of staging lites. He who lites the first set is expected to NOT light the second set until other person lites first set, then you can stage (lite) the second set which is only a few inches forward so creep with your foot on the brake ready to stop.
When you line up behind the cars that are at the tree ready to go. DO NOT DO your burnout until instructed to by guy in the middle. If you have to back up because you go through staging lites be sure and put gearshift back in drive. It may not make any difference but I alway run with the overdrive off. I also yell at truck during race and puff on a cigar. Sweat towell and water bottle are also a good idea and cooler with cold whatever. Alcohol is not recommended for internal consumption until racing is done because it will generally ruin your reaction time and consistancy.

Wink

As soon as you cross the traps without a helmet under 14 seconds you explode and disappear into the 15'th dimension. That or someone may tell you to get one before your next run. The most likely thing is that nothing will be said. You really should get/borrow/rent one though.
