AMW Catch Can
AMW Catch Can
How about the AMW catch can, how well does it work, who uses it and what type of inline check valve should we use? Also, any installation pictures would be greatly appreciated.
Been using one for eight months now. Mounted it to the firewall side of the battery box. Ran the hose from the PCV to the top nipple, then out he side nipple to the plenum. Zero Oil in intake. Catch can works great. The long hose running to and from the catch can can't hurt either.
Thanks for the reply Bayou Lightning! On my stock setup there seems to be a hose tee'd off between the PCV valve and the upper intake going down behind the engine. Where does that hose go and on what side of the catch can is it hooked up? Does it hook up to the PCV or inlet side of the catch can or the outlet or intake side of the catch can? If it's a crankcase vent I would assume it is tee'd on to the PCV or inlet side.
Does anyone else have any comments ( good or bad ) or pictures of the AMW Catch Can install?

Sorry been away from the computer a few days. The line that is tee'ed going to the back of the passenger side plenum in now runing to the top nipple of the catch can. The other piece of the vacuum line runs to the back of the lower portion of the intercooler, where oil that has dripped through your intercooler sits and festers. I have some great photos but no way of posting them. The can is a piece of art in real life. And it functions perfectly.

I have a GReddy catch can system I highly modified to actually work.
The biggest thing I see wrong with the AMW can is the inability for the can to catch all the oil vapor. I modified my can to force all the oil vapor to pass thru about 3 inches of heavy duty steel wool which is doing a great job at catching almost all of the oil and trapping it. Having a site tube is nice also, lets you see when to empy the can without having to open it up. I also installed a drain valve for easy empting. I empty mine once a year.
Stock, the GReddy can is a piece of junk.

There aren't any built the same for $20. Maybe on the outside, but it stops there. They work very well, but really took a stupid jump in price when they got popular. I paid less than $80 for mine with the billet bracket a little over a year ago.

Tampa - The AMW is packed with about 2 inches of steal wool mesh. It is doing a fantastic job of stopping the oil laden air from getting into the plenum.
The AMW is the oil seperator. No need to run any other oil seperator in conjunction with it.
The only thing that I had to buy to make it work was a 3/8 brass or plastic inline hose adapter from Auto Zone. Like a buck. This was to connect the return line from the can to the stock upper plenum rubber boot. AMW sends two feet of hose, clamps, etc for the install. I paid about $100.00 eight months ago.
