Flowmaster Owners...
Just FYI, I put the 50 series on my '98 (not L). It sounds good, but if I did it again, I'd get 40 series or possibly 30 (louder!!). My brother has 30's on his '90 LX 5.0 and they are almost too loud.

No offense intended Kelly but the 40's are the loudest according to their webpage.
Had the 40's(2/2 chamber) on my '99 and missed the rumble so much had an appointment to get them on my '00 by the time I had 400 miles on it. Takes a while to burn off the paint on them but they sure sound better than the Escort muffler that comes with the truck.
If you're taking it to a shop thats never done one before they tear out the old one they'll need (1) 2.5" offset inlet by 2.5" center outlet for the passenger side one, and (1) 2.5" center inlet by 2.5" center outlet for the drivers side one. They mount about a 1/2" apart on their sides like this: \\ or the other way: //. Sorry, can't remember, was busy looking at everything else under the machine
and I'm at work so I can't go look. Also recommend taking measurements of the tips as to their centerpoint because they "look" different while on a hoist than when its sitting normal on the ground. The ones on my '99 ended up forward of their original postion because of this.

40 series is great...The sound is not oppressivwe but they will announce your presence. You will hear them inside the cab especially between 1700-1900 RPM. Go above that range and the sound is awesome and also at idle. The tech that installed it for me said the series 40s are borderline too loud and just about not loud enough and after driving the truck now for over three months with it installed, I now know what he meant.
I definetly like the FLOWMASTERS on my truck.

Was looking for a nice rumble not too loud at idle and something that could be heard at WOT. Went with the Delta 50s. Loved the sound at WOT and no resonance in the cab at any speed.... mellow groan in the background at highway speeds. Now that I have put Sal's PSP filter on. The blower sounds like a Lear Jet at WOT and can barely hear the mufflers from the driver's side. However, passengers say it sounds awesome... the mufflers and the supercharger in unison at WOT. If you "loud" at all speeds get the straight 40 series.

Has anyone gone through the process of cutting in a crossover/H-pipe on your dual muffler set up? I talked to Flowmaster and their tec said with the staggered setup (i.e.one can center in/center out; and one offset in/center out)the sound would be smoother with the H-pipe installed.

This summer I am going to purchase stainless steel pipe (tubing) or aluminum, about six feet worth I am going to have to figure out how much I am going to need. My plan is this: I am going to fabricate my own cat back exhaust system. I am getting tired of taking my truck to the dealer for the muffler problem. So far it has lasted about 5 hard runs. Then third time it went out, that was how long it lasted. I plan to bend the tubing, and bolt them puppies in! I will also tack-weld the two pipes together so it will be easier to mount. I should have access to the proper tool to do this, pipe bending machine, and a welder, also a plasma cutter (incase I want to go quick and clean), and a pipe cutting tool. This should be a fun little project, and it should be a little cheaper than going to a muffler shop. They want a $100+. I expect costs to be whatever the going rate is for the steel ($20 max), and my time. The noise is pretty loud in the cab without the muffler on, I think that is because the inlet pipes to the muffler are right behind/below the passenger seat.. Hopefully, moving the sounds source to the side of the bed will help quiet down the cab noise, and let the other guy hear the rumble. Don't forget the extra hp gain, or wait, do I need a Tundra Exhaust sticker for that?
