Where to get remote amp turn on wire?
I have searched and found out that some amps don't need one and others do. Well I have a Rockford 250 a2 and was wondering if you all knew if I need a remote power wire. If so where were you all getting it from on the stock head unit. One more question where is the best place to run the amp power through the fire wall at?
Thanks EJ
Thanks EJ
What I did for the remote switch was take some speaker wire and jump it from the main power clamp thingy and put in the remote power switch clamp, of course I made it long enough so that I could put in a real switch. Leaving the amp on hasn't seemed to do any harm, as there is no signal to amplify when the truck is off. I ran the main power cord around the edge of a boot on the driver's side fire wall. I know it sounds shady, but it works just fine for me.
What I want to know is what color is the small ignition wire to the key switch, so I can install my very own kill switch.
I hope this helps

Well I don't have my factory radio installed anymore, but what I do have is the little book from my aftermarket radio install kit. So assuming the lightning doesn't have any wiring that's too strange, it should give what the wires in the factory harness are. Check out a jpg scan of the page here.

Both G & H on the diagram will accomplish what you need.

when i wired my amo into my head unit i wired the power from the battery with an in line fuse then , to turn it off and on i taped into the antenia wire. so when the radio is off the amp went off.
Hey guys, I have quite a background messing with aftermarket audio equipment. The first move is to buy an aftermarket head unit. Even the $2-300 kenwood base model radios blow away the stock unit. If your goin to keep the stock head unit for now, The best thing to do is run the remote wire from the fuse box to the amp. Pick a low amp fuse, and run the remote wire from the fuse box to the amp. This way when the car turns on, the amp does too. Also, every aftermarket amp has a remote wire. This is how the amp knows to turn on and off, so as not to drain the battery!
