347 stroker
I wouldn't do it, personally. The ring packaging, etc for a 347 is not even close to optimal for a long-life motor. To get it all to fit within the relatively short deck-height of a 302, you get the wrist pin WA up there in the ring pack.
The rod ratio is also not that great, and you get some pretty interesting side-loading of the piston in the cylinder bore.
I went with a 331 for my SVO block in my '90 LX for a reason.
There's nothing wrong with a 347 if you have the ability to tear it down pretty often. Expect no more than 20k miles without some pretty significant ring wear, IMO.
BTW, how'd this make to the Lightning board...not that I really care.

If you build the 347 with the shorter 5.315 rod the wrist pin win not be in th oil ring, but you rod ratio will be about 1.56:1 not the greatest but there are big block chevys that are worse the that from the factory and ther last forever. The motor life is directly related to how you plan on driving your car, nitrous, supercharger? If seen alot of 347 last well past 20K, and still excellent ring seal. Don't let anyone tell you it's a bad motor, It's not. It is anexcellent motor. If your just going to run it on the street, Why don't you put the 351 in it. It will fit. You'll have to put a mustang brake booster and hp motorsports drop engine mounts. what is the big deal!
I don't see how the 5.315" rod will make a difference. Maybe I'm thinking blower motor where you really need some decent distance b/w the crown of the piston and the ring packaging.

I have several friends running them with 35k miles on them...and they still run good, but they're burning some oil. Leakdown tests show this.

I put a 347 in my 65 Mustang and I love it. I have only put about 10,000 miles on it and no problem so far. I used the stroker kit from Coast High Performance. The compression ratio is fairly low, 9.2/1 and I get 260 rwhp. Not too bad from a basic 289 block. It does 13.9 in the 1/4. Good luck
when you have been on this board as long as i have i guess you value the opinions of other members on this board more than other boards.besides, looking at some of the other rides we have ikinda thought other members like me play with a lot of other toys besides there truck.and if the 351 will go in then the 392 crate motor is going in but until i can try to fit it i want really know all the problems i might find.thanks for the help.
