horsepower???
horsepower???
Hey guys,
Been on here a while but just got my truck on friday.
How much HP can these stock blocks handle safely, im talking daily driven. 450-500? or is that pushing it.
Well whatever the safe limit for the stock block is, help me get there. If you could list exact mods that would be great so I can write them all down and buy as I go. I plan on ordering the JLP intake to start, then I figured the complete Magnaflow exhaust. But what about pulleys, upper and lower?? which lbs?
Thanks guys

S search would yeild you the correct answer, do you know why? I've been reading here for a couple years and I've came across many times where ppl say 450RWP is about the safe limit on a stock block with a supercharger. 525ish with a turbo.
You need to spend a few more minutes searching.

Now I just need the mods to get there.
Also, is this 450 to the wheels or flywheel?
I said "450RWP"
RWP means REAR WHEEL Power. meaning to the wheels.
no one on any forums quotes or speaks of crank numbers so get use to never thinking crank unless you're reading car brochures.

It's all in the tune!! People blow up their motors almost stock and others have over 500 hp with the stock block, driving daily without any problems. What ever route you decide to go, the BEST MOD you can buy is a dyno tune.= Safety and the most power possible with the mods you have on.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend.
One route: New supercharger (kenne bell or whipple) with other various bolt-on's and a dyno tune will get you there realitively safely.
2nd route: Turbocharge it. You can find a lot of info searching that.
3rd route: Debatable how safe it is but a 4lb or 6lb and some laughing gas should put you around that mark
BEST route: Built motor.
First, thing you need to do is figure out how much you want to spend, what you want the truck to do and how you want it to do it, then REASEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH.
Good luck and try searching a little harder next time before you get flamed.
Detonation...
If you work out the numbers, our stock rods can handle GOBS of power. As long as there is never any detonation...
Of course even in the most perfect engine, you'll get detonation occationally. So as folks said, it's mainly in the tune.
I've been running nearly 500hp at the wheels for almost two years on a stock block. That being said, I'm only running a 4lb pulley and I've done everything possible to be nice to my engine (long tubes, electric fan/water pump, ported everything) as well as beefed up my tranny.
