Post new 2000L owner

I have had my truck for 3 days now and I am very happy so far. By the way the dealer has to replace my front valence, it was trashed underneath. I have a few questions. At what mileage point is it good to put my Mobile 1 5w30 synthetic in? I know I want to let everything seat in on the engine first. Has anyone put the Ford splash guards on their truck, and how do they look? Unfortunately I get in gravel sometimes and I want to protect the paint. As Far as computer chips, If you had to take your truck in for warranty work, can Ford detect the chips changes if you remove the chip before you take it in? By the way, were is the engine control module on the 2000L. My 95L was a pain to get at because you had to remove the inner fender to gain access. Finally a guy at work threw down $100 that his 95 corvette LT-1 could take me. What is everyones take on that? I definitely do not want to lose that one. I only pick fights I know I can win!

I justed toasted a 97 vette this morning. Is his vette stock? I recommend getting some mods in yours first, then I would squash him like a bug. All I have is a chip and filter. If his vette is stock, he is toast.

As far as the chip, if you remove it and disconnet the battery, Ford will not be able to tell you had it in.

Congrats on your L !!!

Cool

Get a chip and filter and he is toast if you get a good launch too(just race a 1/4 mile, his aerodynamics should get you at higher[120+MPH?] speeds). Like he said, remove the ground cable, hit the brakes or headlights, wait 5 mins and if your radio lost its time and preset stations you have erased the codes in the computer. The only thing they can trace is the fact that the terminals that the chip attach to are cleaned off. They won't see those unless they have to go into the computer.

Read blue bloods link for installing the chip, photos and locations included:

collins8,
Couple of issues on the 95 Vette:
Auto of 6 speed?
Are you sure its a 95 & not a 96 (they look identical), cause if its a 96 w/6spd, that is an LT4--dont run it!
If auto was gearing in the rear? (2.73 or 3.07).

To put it in perspective for you. I have a 96 LT1 Vette w/auto and optional 3.07 gearing. Best ET w/it is a 13.97 (only mod is hypertech and 160 thermostat), best ET w/my 2000 L which has Sals filter, but no chip yet--14.098. Once you chip it, you'll take the Vette no problem. Personally, I wouldn't lay the money down without the chip and filter.

Question on the chips.

If you have a 'flip chip' like I've heard from other L owners, and say one setting is for stock and one setting is high performance, and you take it in for service and/or problems and it's set to stock settings, is there any way they'll find out that you have a 'flip chip'??

Thanks.

collins8,
I'd put your money down after the chip and filter. If he's got the 2.73 gear you would be Ok w/your L stock, but you don't know which gear, so I'd not run. Although, let me add this: When I've told people at the track that my best is a 13.97, they say that is a very strong time for a 96, generally people say they should run in the mid 14's.
