Torque converter issue or tranny problem???

Hello,

Lately, I have noticed the "additional shift" problem that I read about in someone's post a while back. It seems like the 3-4 shift has developed a lag, during which it almost feels like there's a separate shift going on. Now, it feels like it is taking longer to shift from 2-3 and 3-4...Also seems to downshift when going up slight hills, which it didn't do before. Transmissions are a mystery to me, as well as torque convertors and gears - I am learning, but I dont need my DD to go out during this time. If anyone out there has any advice, I would appreciate it!

Thanks,

Steve

Steve...I am no expert...but my first question is...do you have an FTVB? If so, do you also have a chip? I ask because when I first installed my valve body and chip, the line pressure was turned up and when it shifted into third, it gave a little "extra" jerk like there was another shift. Had to go in and turn the line pressure down on the chip.

Chad,

Yes, I have a FTVB, but no chip (as a side note, the FTVB has been in for about a year) - recently had a custom tune done (and have emailed the vendor about this issue), but this started before the tune was put into the truck....just seems to have gotten worse lately. Hope that this isnt a tranny issue but am willing to hear opinions about having BTS help me out here....

hmmmm I hope BTS helps you out as well (can only assume you have a BTS tranny). Like I said...you can try and turn your line pressure down on the tune and see if that helps.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Good luck

Dont mean to be stupid, but how exactly did you cure the issue?

Thanks for the responses, guys!

Looks like I'm going to have to play around with the line pressure, and maybe check the FTVB... Hope that this is an easy fix, and not representative of something more serious (and expensive)....

Thanks again,

Steve

If he did have a BTS there would be no need for a FTVB. If a FTVB were added to a BTS that could be trouble.

I've ridden in Dealerjim's truck with a BTS tranny and it's like no other. You sure wouldn't feel like you needed a FTVB. There is a major difference in the speed of the shift and feel of the shift. It's something you have to experience because it's hard to explain.
