The time has come for Taps

Guys, The L is pending sale and will/should be gone next weekend. It was great being an L owner but it's time for me to move on. I will still check this site daily and give you guys a hard time. I'm going to the dark side and hopefully slipping into a Corvette this year if I can find a good deal. I always wanted a Corvette and the time is right. See you guys down range.

DONT DO IT !!!!!I made that mistake last year and have regretted it EVERY day since. I was sick of the car in 2 months.I dont care what anybody says.I am a pure enthusiast and i can tell you the vettes are OVERATED.I did not spare one option either. My vette had the absolute highest MSRP Z51 a vette could have.It was not missing 1 option.I know some of you will disagree and i believe you should but unless you have owned one, you have no right to talk. My vette did not handle much better than my Lightning .I even spun it out on an offramp.I never lost control of my L!!!!!Believe it or not.It would not even spin the tires.Yes it was fast on the highway but my chipped Lightning would chew it from a stoplight, i gaurantee it!!I was so disapointed in it.I know some of you will say that i am dilusional but i have won national races ,i am no beginner. The car had 0 torque compared to the Lightning. It was absolutley NOT fun to drive. Now if your talking Z06, that i have not owned.I cannot speak for it but the C6 is way way way overated!! my .02

I have taken in to consideration what you are saying since I have heard it many times before. I have seen many L owners on this board leave only to return and pronounce their regret. Maybe I will do the same but at least I went forward with something I have always wanted to own and drive. I sort of feel like some kid doing something his dad tells him not to. If things don't work out, at least I have the money to return. Thanks.

In 1999 I was looking at the new Lightnings and decided instead to purchase a new C5 Corvette. I loved it for awhile but there isn't much you can do with a sportscar except go fast. I couldn't haul, I couldn't tow and I could only take along one other person at a time. Space is very limited in a Corvette. Then there were reliability issues. Corvettes are loaded with electronic gadgets that like to break so I spent a lot of time going to the dealership for repairs. Nothing major but a lot of nickel and dime stuff. Anyway, to make a long story short, after about 18 monthes of ownership I had had enough. About a year after I sold the Vette I bought my 2002 Lightning that has now been in my stable for over 4 years and I have no desire to let it go anytime soon. It is both quicker and more reliable than my C5 was and if I want to haul a load of mulch for the yard I can.

I sold my Vette to get my current '04 L. Regardless of what anybody says, a Vette is a hell of a car. But you must ask yourself a question - Why do you own the Lightning? If you're like me, 90% of the fun is from modding and tinkering with it. If so, you will not enjoy owning the Vette. It's horrifically expensive to modify, and very difficult to work on. If you're just looking to buy one and cruise and have fun, you'll be ok.

Take this from someone who has owned a Vette, and my best friend has an '02 Vette. Wonderful cars, but not very condusive to modifying due to the expense and complexity.

Best of luck!

I sold my 1997 f150 4x4 ext cab for a 1995 polo conv corvette, it was fun for a while, downside can't see crap out of convertible with top up. LT1 good motor fell on it's face after 5500 rpms. I drove a 2002 corvette, c5's much more refined than a c4 but, it was tyme for another truck, so i bought my 01 lightning and It was the best decision I could've made. good luck with your new vette, you might be one of the few who never comes back to the lightning.
