Post Heads and Cams

Hey,
Does anyone know who I can contact about changing the heads or cams? I am unable to find anyone that has the knowledge to know what kind of head work to do or what spec. to cut a cam for this truck. I am being told that head work would not yield much hp because of the blower and the cost would be very high for that limited gain. Everyone I talk with about cutting a cam brings up drivablity. I am at a loss as to what to do or who to trust.
Thanks for any help,
dogleg

If you are looking into that big of an upgrade project, I would consider doing a cylinder head swap with the Navigator. It was brought up several weeks ago when Spiro put his Cervani hood on. I called the dealer and they would have to order them. $1200 each side, and it comes complete with valves. I think you would have to get a new intake, which would mean a different supercharger. I think the end hp would be an estimated 545 hp, and about 500 ft lb torque.

I called and emailed in January. Got an email back from Sean just last week. He suggested replacing the Eaton with a Holley!! Seemed way off track to me. I too have been looking for someone with experiance on head porting & cams with little luck so far. As far as not porting the heads because of the SC (nuts), because of the small gains I've seen posted with regards to headers ect.. It seems the best course of action is to improve the intake side until the exhaust needs improvement(Cams & Heads) Porting the heads = greater air flow =less boost pressure (read manifold pressure) = lower intake temps and more power..

I would put a Kenne Bell sc on there before a Holley. They already make a kit for the regular 5.4, but the stock Lightning setup is already a very good setup.

I have no details, but Motorsport Technologies, Inc. here in Houston has done at least one Lightning w/new heads/cams. I don't know what the outcome was yet, but they have done the work.

you might try giving them a call and see what they say.

Actually, I remember Chuck telling me that the guy dynoed 400RHP just with the heads. West side performance does all their head porting. According to what I heard, West Side said a lot can be done to improve the heads. I think Chuck said 40RHP was the net gain from the heads. Wow, that's impressive. The guy is getting cams right now, and I will pass on what I hear when he dynos.

OneBad Dak, any & as much info would be great! Like what company is doing all the work, what exactly they do, the resuts, & if possible the $$$ involved in doing it. I know porting these heads WILL increase hp, just wasnt sure by how much etc... Also a new cam would be great, but wouldnt want too much & screw up emis. Keep us informed on the progress. Oh who is doing it, & what is their tn#, I just might give them a call. thx

I always Like the slogan: "If you can't flow, bottle feed it."
Any horsepower you can make in increase flow can be made with a bottle... I know some of you are going to say I want it there all the time, but do you need it there all the time?

Plus Bottle make people weak in the knees.

Good luck with the Heads and Cam.

I want to change the cylinder heads in my F-150, so I e-mailed a ford parts distributer and they said i would have to take parts from a navigator, more than just the cylinder heads.

I just got e-mailed an estimate from Ford Parts Mall and they said $3200 to change the stock 16 valve heads with Lincoln Navigator 32 valve heads. But thet said the estimate is on the high side.
