Absolutely, the difference was much more marked that I would have supposed before the switch.
I am almost always in the power band now and it pulls like crazy from any speed up to 100+. There is a slightly different tone to the exhaust at hiway speed, but not unpleasant, just higher rpm's (about +200 rpm at 70).
For the $180 for the gear set and another couple for the installation ,it was a very worthwhile investment.
Here's the good part: I gained a little over 2 tenths on my 1/8 mi et's at Lone Star Raceway last night, just from the gear!

Since we are speaking of gears, do you need to have your speedo redone in order to use the 3.73, if so can it be without using a chip, and lastly would you recommend this for a daily driver?
As the 373 is a Ford option for the Lightning they have a little Rotunda black box that they plug into their computer and then into your truck and it completely reporgrams the speedo and whatever for the 373 rear. Takes about 5 minutes and no they do not have the software to program any rear end except our stock one and the 373.

Call my man Gordon Grimma at Joe Myers ford in Houston. Tell him your a friend of mine and you have an L and you want 373 gears put in which is an authorized Ford upgraded for the L and you expect tha parts to be under 200 and the labor to be about the same (I'm guessing on the labor, parts are around 200) because that's what you've been told others have paid from F150 online. He'll treat you right. If he doesn't let me know and I'll call him.

Chuck and I drive our trucks everyday, everywhere. Not a problem except on the gas mileage. It does go down a little, as in 10th's. To me the gear is the first modification to be done IF: you want to run 1/8 or 1/4 mile times. If you are into top speeds I would look in a different direction. The truck calls for lower gears when drag racing. They are factory gears listed in the Ford parts book as an option for the 99-00 Lightnings. Any local SVT dealer can reset your speedo to match this gear via your factory PCM.
For those w/ 3.73's, what is your 1/4 mile rpm through the traps? Wyldman, were you using the drag radials at the track after you installed the 3.73's? Thanks

David,
Yessir, I was running the Hoosier DOT slicks. The first pass they hooked great, after that, I was slip sliding away. Still looking for the magic traction genie, but the gears did help some.
Can you join us out at Lone Star this Sunday?
