Unhappy 90 model 454 SS

ok i'm correcting myself the guy i was talking about yesterday on my post about launching in automatic had a 90's model SS you know the 454 SS chevy's that are black anyway, I got burned and i'm not making any excusses i just got burned i think its because truly i don't know how to drive my L yet.
I've never ran it against anything except people on the highways at like 50 punches, but at the end he told me everything he had done to it and wow it was a big list he has over 4k in the engine alone plus what ever he did to suspension and other things. and my L is completly stock. I hung with him but he beat me by at least 1 car length. so i think that it was my driving and the fact that my truck is stock. Should I have been able to beat him even though my truck was stock? comments anyone, well i was just letting you guys have a update on my race i posted yesterday.

If he's got $4000 into a 454 and a bunch of suspension work? I think the outcome was right on since you're stock.

Well it pissed me off i wasn't planning on putting that much money into my engine and suspension but now i'm going to spend every penny i have on my truck to spank that chevy. So that the next time we race it won't be the same outcome and is there anyway to get like a shift kit to make it seem more like a standard i just can't get the hang of a automatic(not that i've practiced) anyway could someone give me a list of mods that would take the chevy down.
Thanks

depends on what he's done, he's got you by 120 CI, add to that some mild head work and a decent intake/exhaust package and he should take you, if he did the motor top to bottom with even mid level components a mild 9.5 to 1 compression and set of alloy heads, 500 to 550 HP would be very achievable goal.

Put it in "D" and go!@

4# lower, port the blower, add traction bars and stickier tires and you'll beat him.

As for a shift kit? Like an automatic you HAVE to shift. BAD IDEA! we have a column shift!
You might want the FT valve body (shift kit) and maybe a stall convertor. But the stall convertor will hurt you on the street if you are not hooking up with traction.

What et's did you guys run? What were your 60' times? If he only beat you by a truck length, then i think a 4# lower and a chip would solve all your problems

one of the locals here in central texas had a slew of 454SS', one had the 502 crate motor swap and lowered, was good for 12.7's on 20" street tires. Stock was in the 15's though.

The 454 loves the bottle as well

Those 454ss can be made to go fast real easy. We have a guy in AZ infact it is AZblackmonsoon on this board who has one with a KB on it. That truck kicks a$$. I would say it will take more than just a chip, filter and pulley but it is a good start. Welcome to the modding

Like others said, the pulley is a good call, as would be a custom tune. I say get the pulley, and intake installed. Then get a tune based off of those changes. also you may want to look into lowering it a tad, firming it up, and getting traction bars to get 'er going nice and straight and without hesitation.

I'm not a Lightning owner, so not sure if exhaust is a worthwhile mod or not...anyone else know?
