Question Help - Looking for High Octane Fuel In Dallas

There used to be a racing fuel place on 35 in Farmers Branch but it closed a couple years ago. I know there is a gas station on the way to Lake Texoma that sells 100 octane unleaded in one of its pumps.

Do you all know of any places closer to civiliztion ??

I have searched yellow pages and internet and asked around at gas stations where the attendants speak english but no joy.

Help ??
Doug

Hey Doug,

There's this Dallas Mustang <- incorrect name
place over in Arlington next to Texas statum that sell's it out of the pump, I can get you the name of the place Tuesday. It was pony something I think.

Also run out and get June 2000 issue of sport rider they do a story of high octane fuels.

Basically,

104+ octane boost good for 11.7/1 compression ratio $4.99 for 16 gallon tank result=nothing.

vp motorsport 103 gasoline $4.75 per gallon tank result=nothing/1hp.

vp c-sp 102.3 octane good for 12/1 compression ratio result=lost hp $5.25 per gallon.

power-mist rfg 108 octane result=2 hp $7.72 per gallon.

vp c-12 109 octane good for 14/1 compression ratio result=0 hp $5.50 per gallon.

vp-mr#4 104 leaded octane 2.5% oxygen result=2 hp $10.99 per gallon.

vp-mr#3 result=5 hp $25.00 per gallon.

It seems like you really have to increase the compression ratio before you can use these fuels benefits.

Good luck.

I get all my race fuel from Motorsport Sales which is located basically at 635/75 intersection (maybe too far east for your convenience).

They sell Phillips 66 race fuel which is what many top professional teams use. It is not a blend of a lot of octane boosters, spark knock prohibiters...which are just that...and aren't a pure race fuel.

I'm no chemist, so don't ask, but I've done some research on the stuff.

You can get 100 or 105 octane unleaded and many different types of leaded fuel. Their fuel octane is combined research/road octane, so it will be lower than many others who claim to have really high octane ratings. The 105 has a research octane of 110 and a road octane of 100, so they rate it at 105.

At the same time, I concur with what F1 said. If you don't need higher octane, then it will not help you. Now, with these motors like our L's that have knock-sensors, maybe if you've gotten some bad 93 gas the thing won't give you the programmed spark advance under boost. It might be pulling some out. But, the computer isn't going to ever go _above_ its programmed timing table, even if it doesn't see any spark knock. It'd be kinda cool if it did.

However, on something that really can benefit from high octane fuel, the gains are astronomical. On my '90 LX, for instance, the difference in 93 vs 105 octane is 30+rwhp b/c of the additional timing I can run with the 105.

Thanks Guys

I ran 100 in my Turbo Coupe in the 80's and while I never had it dynoed or to the Track it felt like it ran better with a few gallons of 100 octane. I was just going to run 2-3 gallons on a half tank to see if it helped. I have been able to feel the difference between acouple different types of gas. This would just be a guaranteed way to get 93+.
