installed 4lb & JDM tune PLEASE HELP ME
I got my new tune on Friday from Jim Jr @ JDM for my x-cal box style..put on my 4lb lower and NGK TR6 gaped @ 35 installed the cold tune and started it up..as long as it was under no boost things were good from 4 to 5lbs of boost the motor sounded like it was destination...very bad...So she went back in the shop, checked everything...All was well..I took one of my Friends plugs out of his 04 L and he had his gaped @ like 42 and higher with a 6lb-er so i was like there is my problem....! regabed all plugs again @ 42....Started it up ran even worse...now we were going back-words....! So I re-gaped the yet again this time @ 30...started her up & same thing put not as bad as the 42 gap and a little better then the 35 gap but still like S**T ....!
Can anyone help me on this ?????? PLEASE..........!

Try another tune...Sounds like somethings not right in the tune... Make sure you do a pcm reset (disconnect the battery) before trying another tune... 3 plugs changes in a day! I feel for ya man... Good luck...
Ya what Jeff said
Killer,
With a 4lb you can safely drive it without a tune "for testing purpose's"
simply go back to the factory settings a minute and make sure all is well.
If it is you know it's in the tune, if it still feels wrong you know it's something else.
On a diff note the fact the Gap made such a big diff is kind of weird
Talk to 10 people and you'll get 10 answers on the Gap, go back a few years and the answers would have been differant. With a 4 or 6 lb lower I've ran
.038 - .040 for years of trouble free driving/racing, as time moved on (and boost moved up) people started recommending smaller gaps and I've had it as small as .028 - .032
Point is it ran good in all situations, usually you only go smaller to prevent spark blow out at high RPM's (when running a lot of boost).
I dont understand why it would make such a diff in your case ???
Is it possible a coil is bad ? or one of the wires ?

If it the tune....should i disconect the battery and for how long and would that bring that to the stock setting again.....? it has to be in the tune...We disconected the coil packs one at a time to here the moto miss to try to trouble shoot it and every the we pullede them off there was a miss so its not the coil packs the fuel inj and rails I did'nt touch the vac hoses were rechecked too.....is there a way to get the factory tune in with out the programmer.....?
No not a way to get the Factory Computer settings back without the Tuner,
(at least that I know about ???)
Why ? do you NOT have the tuner ???
I'm new to the X Cal, I always ran multi chips, however I do now have the X-Cal2 and it was extremly easy to load and change tunes, simply plug it in and follow the on screen directions.
AS for resetting it and how long, I hear most say 5-15 minutes, and others say after you disconnect it, you turn the key "on" and then put the head light switch on, (or off and on a few times).
By any chance do you have Multi Tunes on that tuner ???
IS it possible you loaded a race tune ???
I would call JDM and leave a message on the machine, (if you havent spoke to him yet) they'll check their messages and get back to you.
Good luck and please let us know how you make out....

hmmm
first thing i would do it put the stock tune back on. If it's ok, you know there is an error in the tune, which is an easy fix. Like Rob said, you can run the truck with a 4lber with no tune, just don't go nuts.
If it still does it with or without the tune, i doubt its related to your new mods, and might just be pure cooindidence.
Keep us posted.

What kind of fuel pressure is the truck seeing is it possible that you may have a bad relay, fuel filter, y fitting in the tank cracked or line split. Seen that before in mannyy trucks
Try to take the tune out and see if it is still there, your truck is so lightly modified that you shouldnt have a problem running the stock tune to see if the truck still detonates.
And like rob asked, what tune are you on??
Check these things, call me monday and we can speak about it!

I don't question your tunes @ JDM..I think that you guys are the best in the business I have sent alot of guys over to u and I think your reputation speaks for it self...I had got the programer sec. hand I was worried about that more then the tune....Its a box that dosent have a LED just lights on this x-cal.....I installed your tracktion bars too. I did'nt hit any line that I know of and I run only 93 in the truck....I am stumped But I need the truck to drive to work thats why I'm looking to fix the problem as quick as I can....
It sounds like you cracked the top porcelain on one of your plugs. A very fine crack can be hard to see.
I had a stuck #4 plug (last on passenger side) a few months ago and in one of my different attempts to get it out I barely cracked the top porcelain. It ran fine until I went WOT then it missed like crazy. I was having to put so much a$$ on it trying to get it out that the plug socket can be at a bad angle causing damage. PB Blaster and a heavy hand finally did the trick. When I got it out I saw the hairline crack.
Take each plug out and inspect it carefully.
Years ago on another vehicle I had a bad plug when I put a new set it. It missed at WOT. I ditched the plugs and bought a new set rather than try to track down the bad one.
If you can't find anything wrong visually with the new plugs then gap down your stock plugs and reinstall them to see if the problem is still there.
You have ruled out the tuner so more than likely it is going to be the plugs or something you left disconnected.
Good Luck.

Chuck
