Exhaust Tip Location
Of the various pictures that have been posted showing our exhaust tips, it would seem that there is a wide variance in how low the tips drop below the cutout.
Mine hang quite low, like the top of the tip is almost below the side skirting bottom edge. Some that I have seen are nestled nicely up in the cut out.
Looking at the exhaust system, it would seem that all that is required is to loosen the clamp at the front of the muffler, and twist the muffler and tips upwards. Re-tighten and Voila.
Am I right? Anybody done this?

Make sure you clamp the muffler tightly, I have loosened the muffler twice just by stepping on the gas pedal, and I had the exhaust re-torqued by the dealer, since I paid for the extended warrantee and I did not want to risk voiding it in any way. It looks nice though, really tight.
PS How did you get the tips so shiney? I have about 4000 Alaskan miles on my truck and the tips are begging to be cleaned right. thanks for the info.

Hi!
Made a new exhaust system last year (June 99) out of 304 stainless from the cats back used two Borla stainless mufflers (polished too). Then I polished the last 3 feet of the exhaust to a high shine and then polished the inside too. Looks great with the chrome wheels.

Has anyone tried to move up the tips as suggested above? Looking at it, it seems more involved than just swinging up the muffler.

I've tried. We loosened the bolts at the cats and then heated the hangers at the rear of the muffler and by the exhaust tips. Bent the hangers to get the tips nicely snugged up and tightened everything. Looked great.
Started the truck up and got a lttle buzz under the passenger seat when turning. Had a 220 pounder sit in the passenger seat and suddenly the muffler was buzzing off the heat shield right under the passenger seat.
Returned everything to normal and am now just living with low tips. In the end I would say that they are slightly raised.
The heat shield could be removed and flattened somewhat. It has a crease right over the center of the muffler which makes clearance a little tight.
