Wink Hey, try this out instead of the bug protector.

Hey, this is a company that makes clear paint protectors for your trucks and cars. I am going to be driving an Audi S4 (I know, its a little bit faster than your trucks..jk), and thought you guys might wanna try this stuff out as a solution to your rock/stones/bug problems. I dunno if it fits the lightning, but it does fit a regular F150. Here's the site.
http://www.xpel.com/lite/paint/ford.html

If they dont fit your car, you should go ahead and email them, maybe they can custom fit someone's and start producing some for your guys cars. Hope it helps you guys out.

I am looking into an S4 myself and was wondering if you could share how much you paid out the door, what options? I read that the brakes suck, any experience with that?

I dont have my S4 yet, but the breaks are actually pretty good, but could be better. Why dont you head over to http://www.audiworld.com and check out the S4 forum, and go ahead and ask around there. BTW, I leasing it, it came out to be around 48k. MSRP is like 40, but I have the CD Changer, and Convienience package. Go test drive one, they are super fast, and super nice. And for an extra 600 bucks, you can up the power to 310 hp, which, I am sorry for you lightning owners, will blow the lightning away. But the lightning is still sweet as hell. Ciao.

Audi

Friday the 28th my coworker has promised to bring his S4 to the track to see just how fast it is. If you have read any of these posts you will know that Ford was VERY conservative in thier ET's. Hopefully I will be able to post some side by side photos from the track.

Looking at posts on the S4 forum they are barely getting into 13's with mods http://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/s4/44569.phtml . Dont know what you were going to spend the $600 on but that same $600 would buy me a chip and instake system that has put other lightnings into the mid 13's

My truck bone stock with an idiot behind the wheel and less that 1500 miles on it ran 13.9 the first time down the track. It now has almost 2800 miles and is a lot faster. We'll find out how much faster on Friday the 28th.

Even if he has a perfect run and shifts like Mario Andretti and wins the race, he wont be more than a car length ahead of my pickup. All wheel drive twin turbo $48k plus sports car barely able to keep up with a $31K pickup truck .... geesh.

The important thing is we both like our decisions and have fun in them, and if were lucky get to talk trash about them.....

May the best man win I am in no doubt that your truck could best the S4, but only on a perfect run could it probably get a car length or two ahead A close friend of mine has a Black Lightning (2000) and I am getting my S4 in late may, and we'll give it a run through, and he'll probably win though cause I got the break-in period to deal with.

I E-mailed them. They said they have a kit for the Lightning it covers the hood, fender, mirror kit (PO508), and the Grille kit (PO508A). It is the same kit as for all 1997-2000 F-150s-L included. Only diff is the bumper. He said it a massive kit that covers the bumper and air dam. The part # is PO508C and it runs $219.95.

He said they have people that can install, in Dallas I know.

Hey Guys,
I just talked with the guys at Reflex and it is $219 for the lower air damn kit. They as me to tell everyone they will sell everthing; mirrors, hood grill and lower air dam for $350 and they will throw in the covers for the headlights a $103 value.
They said to mention the "Lightning Special" when you contact them. I guess I'll order mine when the tax check gets in.
I did not intend to walk on you Autothrottle, it was easy to make that mistake, after all how in the hell but us would pay $350 for thick tape to put on our trucks.

Thanks for the info. BTW, my first kill as posted here was an S4. I was amazed when he took me out of the hole, and continued slightly pulling me with a great shift. Then it quickly began to change as I hauled him in quite readily, and at 100 MPH he was looking at my tail lights in the distance.

Wink

not a prob dogleg.
I did not know about the Lightning special
This sounds great.
My only question is how this compares to the invicta-shield kit that F150SVT installed on his L.
Does anyone know?

This one is cheaper and covers more than invicta-shield.

PD,

When I had the Invinca-Shield film installed on my '99 about 10 months ago (1st Lightning in the nation to get it), it was cheaper than any of the X-pel quotes I received here in Central Florida. In addition, the Invinca-Shield kit covered more surface area than the X-pel kit covered (i.e., the entire front end, the front A-arms, the top of the cab, and the whole length of the side ground effects back to the tailgate.) And, they had a better warranty, better local dealer service and better home office service.

Also, my next door neighbor used Invinca-Shield to cover his Vette and Hummer and his wife's Boxster and swears by the stuff. I also know that the local Prevost dealer has it installed on his $800,000 motor coaches, as do many of the private pilots in the area.

However, I haven't compared the two for several months, so the situation may have changed and I'm sure the X-pel product is good. At any length, I still like my Invinca-Shield covering very much and have absolutely no stone chips or bug juice damage after 9,000 miles.

AudiS4

Well being a owner of both vehicles, the S4
& Lightning, I have to say my S4 can beat my Lightning all day in handling & saloms but when it comes to just flat out racing I will take my Lightning every day of the week. I have beaten 96,97,98 Vettes in my Lightning going from stoplight to stoplight. My wifes S4 has suffered many defeats from Light to Light racing, even with the twin turbos the power of the Lightning is too much to overcome but I love to drive our S4 just as much as the Bolt if not more because there is not a vehicle on the market under $50,000
that can out handle the S4, that is my opinion. My wife likes the Lightning more because of the overwhelming power but she will not give up the S4 on a rainy day for nothing.
