HRP Results...Friday night
Well Friday night I finally had a chance to take out my L with the new Houston Performance chip... and see if it was as fast as the SOP said. My previous best bone stock was a 13.859@98.08 so I was hoping for a 13.5-13.6 with the chip. WOW was I surprised. First run I tried my usual launch technique of ~1400rpm launch. What a mistake...major wheelspin resulting in a 15.6@98.26 with sad 2.6 60' *OUCH*. I decided to switch lanes and try launch off idle....came back with a very satisfying 13.412@101.26 on a 2.009 60'. I was so happy to see my truck run that quick, but knew there was more to be had. So I went back out and tried launching around 1100rpm...bad mistake again major wheelspin. This time I ran a 15.2@98.31 on a 2.38 60'. So I went back to trying to figure out how to launch and squeeze a little more out of it. So I let it cool down good this time and lined up after a major burnout on the stock goodyears. Instead of concentrating on my lane opposition or cutting a good light I concerned myself with getting off clean with no wheelspin. I knew thas was a good run as the truck bogged and then rolled out nicely. When I got my time slip I was so happy. A 13.395@101.24 on a 1.979 60'. WOW! to date the truck is stone stock except for the HP chip and a replacement K&N panel filter (oh and I pulled the rubber boot). That's it!

Whats the deal on the HP chip? Never heard of it. Do you know a link to a web site?
Thanks,
Jerry

Houston Performance uses the same software as Sal to burn custom chips for lightnings, mustangs, camaro's. When they finally got the software Michael/Steve used my truck to make the original chip on their in-ground chasis dyno w/the wideband watching the a/f ratio. Give Steve D. a call at 281-893-6080 or check them out at www.houstonmotorsports.com.

Hey Nathan good times
What do you think about the bassani headers? I am considering doing the bassani system (have it on my wife's '99 vert and I am impressed with quality), but I am concerned about traction. Already it is getting nearly impossible to street race and even on the track I have to launch at idle. Did you notice a solid gain? How about some before/after dyno numbers?
Also, does anyone make a 18" drag radial? So far the best I can find is a Nitto in a 275/45/17 *uggh*. I really don't want to have to by new rims to.
Thanks for the info.

Mike B,
I was thinking about letting Houston Performance burn a chip for me, instead of this mailing them back and forth until its correct thing. Are they very knowledgable on burning chips and what is the cost? Think they would install a full bassani exhaust also. Thanks.

Michael Senroy does all of the chip burning and he is very knowledgable on burning chips. The cost I am not certain for just the chip, but I think it is 300. Give Steve a call and he can let you know all the details. About the bassani...I spoke via email to Michael Sunday letting him know my track results and he mentioned that they were just doing a full bassani on a lightning. Also, Ask Steve about pricing...he is real big with the mustang crowd and cuts incredible deals for people.

Does anyone know if the guy who started this thread is still on the board? "mb92gt99gt99light" Maybe he's changed his handle. I want to talk to him about the custom chip from Houston Perf. Just need to know if he has had any detonation problems with it.
Thanks, Jerry

Talked with Steve a few months ago about you and your truck and the work he was doing to develope a new chip, he also talked about the one with 8 settings. I wanted to invite you to join us at LSR the last sunday of the month as a member of the Houston Area Lightning Owners. Go to haloclub.com and email me and I will send you the info on the club. Lost of fun and laughfs. Good starting point on your times to work from.

Yes I am still around although I mostly just lurk. In answer to your question no I do not have any detonation what so ever and I do drive my truck very hard. Since the first time on the dyno I have had HP make several adjustments (shift points, firmenss, etc). Although the original fuel/timing parameters have pretty much stayed the same. We tried tweaking it a little more, but discovered the gains to be had were to minimal <4rwhp and could possibly cause detonation.

F1car,
I will try and get my dyno runs scanned in for you. Right now I only have them in hard copy. I should be able to do it tomorrow at work and then send you an email sometime tomorrow around lunch time. I don't have the runs in front of me (sorry out in the truck). However, the last run with bassani, chip, and MAF was something like 378rwhp and 442rwtq.

Whats up Noel? My truck is set to shift at 5500rpms. But has shifted up around 5650rpms. at times. This is Sals chip by the way. It really brought my truck to life. You better do something to your truck before the next HALO meet because you wont be beating me any more.Later!
Caka--Andre and I were arguing about shift points at the Burger & fries nite. He says that there is no reason to set the shift points at an RPM higher than the point where max HP is made. I disagree. I have always shifted at a higher point because of loss of RPM and torque when you shift. Andre says this truck makes max HP at 4800 and shift points should be there. I says that the increased RPM to say 5500 will make quicker times. I'm courious with the two good times posted above by Nathan and MB what their shift points are.
I will have three mods in place for the next trip to the strip and yes, I will beat you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
