Unhappy Anyone else with rear end chatter?

I first noticed some chatter on left turns about a month ago,(I don't put a lot of miles on it)it now chatters on right turns. (with some right foot pressure applied) The dealer is going to replace the fluid first, then see if it is improved. Funny thing is the service mgr. said they need to soak the clutches overnight.(he was ready to change them) Then the writer said that they had to do the fluid first. Sounds like a common problem with the bigger trucks.
Writer said that they have had diesel trucks
with this but no Lightnings.

Question

What do you mean by chatter ?

I can hear and feel the limited-slip diff doing its thing (engaging/locking and then the inside wheel starts hopping/scuffing slightly) when giving it more loud pedal than is prudent in a sharp turn...

Thats about it. It never did it till about a month ago. First only on lefts. It doesn't take that much pedal either.

Hey Blue Blood,

I came in here tonight to start this exact same thread, who would of thought.

I've noticed this chatter, on white cement, usually after just starting up the L, wheel cranked to the left 1/4 to 1/2 and just slightly pressing the gas pedal.

It almost feels like 1mph understeer, and you can really feel comming from the backend. Until reading your post I thought it was coming from the dif.

Please keep us informed.

Drive something with a ture locking rear dif (detroit locker). They have bad chatter(sometimes can hear tire chrip). Be happy that the difs are this tight. My mustang has a lighter dif acion than the truck. I like knowing that when I hit it both tires will pull even. Been thinking about putting a stronger S-spring in stang. Acouple of times stang only spun one tire , every time truck spins both are going.

So William you're saying this is a good thing? I can understand the physics if that's what the posi really does.

Like I said 1 mph under steering?

I'm getting tire chirping under a fairly light throttle. It is getting tighter as time is going on.

The truck has 10000 the engine has 3000 its doing it right and left now. The dealer said it has happened to other types of trucks. They only have 4 Lightnings that have returned for any service so it's not much of a baseline for diagnosis. The service mgr thinks it is in the clutches. When I rotated my tires the right was more worn then the left. That might be due to my not so petite size! It is not cornering as much as tighter turns at low speeds.

blue blood,

How many miles have you done? You might be starting to feel the engine's true power as it starts freeing up. I am sure if the diff was not this quick in locking, the vehicle would be tough to drive, because one wheel would lose traction easy when cornering.

Are you sure you do not corner harder when turning left than right?

I have caught myself doing that. I think because it is easier to see where the inside radius of the turn is. It might even be that you feel the body roll more when you are on the side coming closer to the road, than on the side going up, so to speak.
