Launched plug... warranty trouble!
Launched plug... warranty trouble!
My truck just joined a legion of others with a launched plug. Fortunately, my truck is covered by an extended warranty. HOWEVER, according to my dealer, the "Motor's Guide" used by the warranty company to reference parts and labor costs does NOT differentiate between Lightnings and regular F-150s, so the warranty company says that the labor to repair is less than the dealer says is required (since it's a Lightning). Anybody else experience this problem? If so, any luck getting the warranty company to pony up the extra money? So far they refuse.

I would read your warranty contract very carefully and see where you stand legally. If they got you legally, you may try to pay the difference yourself, if they are willing. What was the recommended fix from Ford? change the heads to the improved ones? If so I would try and pay the difference and get both heads done. Good luck.
Yes, I have a third-party extended warranty.
The dealer is replacing the heads with the newly designed heads, so I told them to go ahead and do the second head as well, since I don't want to deal with this problem again.
My problem is with the warranty claim for the first head. The dealer is charging $300 more for labor than the warranty company is willing to pay. The problem is, I don't know if the dealer is over-charging, or if the warranty company is under-paying.
How many hours of labor does it really take to replace the head? The dealer is quoting 5 hours more than the "Motors Guide" (22 versus 16.7), because it's a Lightning. Does that sound reasonable, or no?
