Truck back up and running

85k miles on the stock motor....

Hundreds of 1/4 mile passes....

The fastest supercharged stock long block, stock heads, stock cams, valve covers have never been off until a couple of weeks ago, KB equipped Lightning. (11.31)...

Last fall that stock motor finally let loose at 20lbs of boost on a fateful 11.47 run... here is the carnage.........

Yuck, talk about alot of mileage!!!!

Has anybody ever seen another Lightning with painted rods and/or markings on the rods? (left one is painted and right ones are marked). Its a 99, so maybe they did things differently back then.

Here is what went in;

Billet Bottom end good up to 1000hp!!!

Upgraded 04 Block, Upgraded 04 Heads

WMS Spec'd CNC ported heads, stage III valve and port job.

Wondering what the weld is there for? These heads are opened up so large in the intake that weld has to be added back in. (its actually added before CNC work is done).

Here's the finished product.

The motor is a 9:1 compression motor with all the other goodies. JLP StageIII cams will complement the WMS heads and WMS block, along with a billet oil pump, windage tray and Moroso oilpan. It also recieved, due to the high mileage, new timing chains, tensioners and crank gear. We are also upgrading to 60lb injectors, mosty because of the future HP level that we plan on running.

I just got to drive it for the first time yesterday and it’s pretty scary.
I was very surprised about how quiet the whipple is.
I’m currently breaking it in so in a couple of weeks it should be hitting the dyno and getting tuned.

Huge thanks to JJ at Woodbine Motorsports for the awesome block and JLP for the cams

Really! Since the KB & Whipple are so close in performance, this would be an interesting comparison. Which one is louder? I have a ported Eaton, and it is way too loud. I'd like to have something a lot more quieter. I have heard the KBs are fairly loud.

That midplate looks different than one I got besides the obvious color change. Had some machine work done to it?

No machine work... The midplates for the 99/00's are a little different from the 01-up.

Yes god forbid someone besides Jim, Sal, or God himself (Johnny) had an original thought as to what could be done to a set of heads.

Thanks guys.

Hey Brian, I wish I could make it to see Satch but I'm gonna be away that weekend. Let me know when the next meet at Mason Dixon is and I'll be there.

On another note, the truck just went thru VEIP without any problems...
