Lightbulb

Has anybody tried that 3M product they use for clear auto bras. That stuff can withstand a good beating and keeps the lenses from getting pitted. If it ever does get pitted you just peel it off and apply a new piece.

I find it hard to believe that the driving lenses aren't glass. I would think they would get too hot and start to warp being plastic.

Them warping might be the cause of the cracking. Somebody might want to check and see how hot the lense is when the lights have been on a while.

Just a couple ideas for you guys/gals to play with.

Last week I showed my cracked lens to my service guy and he said "Oh thats from cold water hitting the hot light bring it in when you get a chance and we will take a picture of it and replace it." No prompting from me at all.

Talking

Two nice new lamps and lens. Thank you Gordon and FOMOCO. My SW said why don't you put the clear covers on them. I told him they were breaking under the covers. Someone posted the covers somewhere once. I don't recall. I tried to find covers but my off road guy said he checked and could not identify the lamp or a cover. Would someone please repost the cover P/N and manufacaturer. Will try to make tomorrow at the Sonic. You have the right Gordon, Joe Myers Ford on 290 at Senate.

Noelvm,

Show up at Sonic tomorrow, you won't be sorry.

Be there or be square!

BTW, here's the data you requested:
However, never fear, I would never leave ya'll in the lurch. They are available (the exact same pieces I was getting) from www.TexasMustang.com for 1/2 the price, $19.99.
Thier website is rather spartan right now, but thier phone number is listed, it's toll free (I think) and the part numbers were recorded in a post a couple of weeks ago:

GTS part#'s
Clear GTO-981C
Smoke GTO-981s
carbon fiber GTO-981X
Amber GTO-981A

Thanks to Stang58 for finding this info...

I believe they also carry replacement fog light assemblies for $49.99 (I think. They are cheaper than the dealer's price and can be purchased singly).

They do make some stuff that goes over your lights that is clear. It is stuck on like a sticker. it is also about 80 thous. thick. Can't remember the name though. Check with custom shops. Have some on one of my cars headlights.

BBQ,

You better stop playing with that stuff before you hurt yourself.

Just stick with fire! OK

Cool

Hi all- I don't own a Lightning, but I wanted to comment on this. I don't think rocks and stones are your problem here, but the product you guys mentioned is called Stongard. It is a clear plastic film, that's fairly thick, and sticks onto your headlights/foglights. You can find more information at www.stongard.com -I'm not sure if they have a specific kit for the lightning, but you can cut to match, I believe. This problem, however, sounds like overheating. Drilling holes in the lexan sounds like a good idea. Nevertheless, good luck with this dillemma.

Fog lens cracked on drivers side. No stone chip evident. I don't drive with them on that much, but last week I was on some twisties and had them on for two days. Noticed the cracked lens when the trip was over. Dealer says they will replace if no stone chip is found.

Hey guys,

Dallas Mustang found my left fog light cracked and replaced it with a mustang cover (looks the same), cost me $17 bucks. I do think they worked on it for about 30 seconds before it would fit, works great, but why wouldn't it?

Hey all you guys that ordered covers from Texas Mustang...

Do your covers fit almost flush against the fog light or do you have so open air between the the inside of the cover and the glass of your light?

I have a 2000 Lightning and the covers don't fit flush against the lights...so I take it there is supposed to be a gap?

Lightbulb cracked lights

i have a theory on the light problem. are we running into
our own rocks? i think rocks are getting caught in the tire
grooves and then kicking out in front of the truck. i am
going to try hanging some kind of flap in the fender wall.
not only are my lights breaking, but my bumper is all
scratched up. but only in front of the tires.
