Good luck, alphadoggy, and as one of us said, membership in this "pay to speed" club is quickly growing. Be careful out there, it's not just the fine, it's the points on your traffic record and the jump in your insurance rates. In California, you can opt for "traffic school" rather than have the offense placed on your record. This also keeps your insurance company from finding out. However, there are limits on this, and exceeding 100 mph is one of them.....and you can only use this method once per year, or maybe even longer, I'm not really sure anymore.

Hey, Alphadoggy, really sorry to hear of your plight. You did not specify the actual section you were cited for, but there are two ways he could have went. If he cited you for the catch all 22350 cvc, then you might scrape by, however if he did use the more punitive 22348(b) cvc, then watch out. The fine is stiff, and if your license is suspended temporarily, it will cost you an additional $100 to get it back. (Not to mention the 2 points on your DMV and the beating on your insurance)

If you want some tips on fighting this one, drop me a note ( mswaim@thegrid.net) Speed violations in access of 100 mph are frowned upon by most judges so plan your defense well.

Alphadoggy,

I cannot enphasize this enough. Get an attorney that specializes in traffic laws. Most have a 95% success rate. Best case the charges will be dismissed and you pay the attorney a couple hundred. Worst case is you have to pay the original fine plus the attorney fees. They won't punish you for taking this to court by raising the fine or the charge.

Sorry to hear about your recent run in with the law Alphadoggy You are actually lucky he didn't put down your actual speed. In most states (certainly in CA), if you double the speed limit, you go directly to jail and do not pass Go. That would have cost you even more money. Good luck.

Unhappy

Spoke to Court Clerk today, and found out that this violation requires a mandatory appearance before the Judge. I guess my goose is cooked; time to shop for a lawyer.

So sorry about the ticket, but in the future, you can avoid this...

Go to radarguys.com, great prices and there are on the market Radar JAMMERS, yep, just like the guys in the Air Force use to drop off presents to the Iraqi Army, legal almost anywhere.....

Worth it at twice the price

Cool

Just last week on the way to work,I was late. I work offshore and missing the boat is not condoned. Anyway I hammmered it and passsed about eight cars in a slow line on a two way strech. I know I prolly hit 125 ..looked back...Way back and saw some lights..Thought WTF my undetectable detector never went off. I slowed and pulled over..I have boogied before on a scooter and it wasn't pretty. Anyway the dude was driving ..get this a Dodge club cab 4x4 with a state shield on the side. I had passed him in that line of cars...Opppps.He was in uniform. I started to get out ..He shouted over his loudspeaker to stay in the vehicle.
Couldn't find my registration and in the rush to get to work had left my wallet. I have an old dog tag so I handed him that. He wrote me for 90 a speeding violation in Alabama. He said he had paced me but couldn`t catch me at 110 mph. Anything above 90 is considered Careless Driving. He said he gave me the benefit of the doubt. In this county you can go to drivers school and pay the fine and they drop the ticket from their record which keeps it off the insurance. I have gone once before..boring. BUT..Maybe this could be an option for others.

WhitelightninSVTgirl says:

it takes an average driver to drive the speed limit without crashing but it takes a damn good driver to not only climb above 115 but do it with all those other average drivers in the way and not crash...

Red face

As long as you don't lose your license, you can be thankful that it is only a 2point violation.

In NJ, 100+ is a 6 point violation plus an automatic reckless driving. :-(

I was looking into getting a K40 sonar-radar installation, anyone got one of these in their L?
