One week in a new Lightning...
It changes your whole outlook on life! I picked up my black 2000 last Tuesday and I thought I'd jot down my thoughts while it's all still "new" to me. First the nit picks:
1. The rear view mirror. Is it me or is this thing tiny? They could have put a nice fat auto dimming mirror in there complete with compass. Then the console could have a real trip computer.
2. The floor mats. Did everyone else get plain jane floor mats? This is an SVT vehicle. It should have SVT Lightning mats. Nuff said. Maybe my dealer missed something here. Anyone?
Ok now to the good stuff:
1. Boost
2. I like the overhead console. Holds my circa 1960 garage door opener and it works! Holds my ray-bans too.
3. Boost rocks!
4. Nice strong shifting tranny.
5. The boost is cool
6. People hanging out the window of their cars to get a look at your new truck
7. Did I mention boost?
8. Popping the hood and suddenly like 4 people show up from out of thin air to look under the hood.
9. Last but not least. Booooost! Got boost?
I love this thing!

I agree, that boost is awesome, but is would be even better if the 10# hit a little earlier. Listening to previous posts, I'm surprised how firm the shifts are. I expected fairly smooth shifts. I can hardly wait to get Sal's chip and really firm the shifts up. Have only had the L for four days but I know it's a keeper.

you oughtta get a chip and filter. If you think the shifts are firm now, just get a chip. I do not have one, yet from what I hear, thats the cheapest way to upset a lot of corvette owners.
This is a first post from a Newbie to this group. Many compliments to the group as a whole. Seems like a good mixture of folks with a common intrest!!! That said.....
My first week of my new 2000 Silver Lightning:
I have drivin my new truck....ah let me see here....yup 12 miles....8 miles home from the dealership and 2 miles back and forth to the tire shop. Boost....what boost????
OK we all knew what this truck was all about before we got it....right we gotta feel the Booost!!!. Well for some reason the silver color makes this truck look taller than than the other colors. I am not gonna drive this truck till it gets a suspension overhall (kinda sad SVT's best effort and the ride highth is all wrong)My L is going to Roush West in Los Angeles next week. I have had 2 other vehicles done by Roush and really like there suspensions. My freind and I have been comparing the differances in tires between his 99 L's Goodyear F1's and my Comp TA's on my 98 Roush F150. We both feel the TA is a better tire for cornering performance. They seem a little softer and seem to stick a little better. This really only matters to the people that feel that cornering speed (Road Racing) is more important than Drag Racing. Don't get me wrong...I have really enjoyed reading the posts here of people drag racin there L's and shareing the results. So I sold the tires off my new L and have sent the wheels out to get them clear coated.(mine were a little dry from the factory)than I will remount with a new set of Comp TA's
Did I tell you about the back window.....God is that rear window ugly !!!!! Looks like a Motorhome window!!! I told the dealer that I didn't even want to see that truck till they replaced the back window with a Standard Deep Tint window!!! It looks much sleeker with the standard deep window!!! Another complaint I have noticed about my new L.....whats up with the body kit on this thing???? geez what a crappy design job this is....nothin meets....nothin fits.... It only looks good from a distance. The nose does look good though....pretty sweet! So, I have mixed feelings about my new L. The only thing that keeps my intrest is the Blower!!! Can't wait to feel the power!!
I have learned allot from this group allready...looks like I'm gona get the Carbon Fiber interior kit, check with this guy Sal on HP mods, maybe a muffler and enjoy a 400 HP Blown street car/truck. Lookin forward to taking it to Hot August Nites in Reno Nevada this year with my Silver 1990 Fat Boy in the back !!!!
Thanks for all the good info,
Robert

I, too, am coming up on one week of ownership of a white 00 Lightning. My son works at a Ford dealership and told me they had two (one black, one white) come in three weeks ago. the black one went fast. I went to look at the white one (asking list and not budging) and began doing research. Procrastinated for two weeks with my son telling me it was still on the showroom floor (he has a Contour SVT). Had a conversation with my insurance rep (USAA in San Antonio) checking on insurance rates and we talked for 15 minutes as he recounted to me he and his Dads efforts in finding one in Texas. Said they could not find one, all dealers had sold out so they would have to wait 'til this year. Apparently they were an SVT family. Continued research (including y'alls comments on this board) convinced me that it was an opportunity I could not pass up. I was fortunate it lasted for two weeks. We were closing the deal when another guy came in to seriously buy. No more available this year.
Bottom line, I am am way impressed. Gotta love that boost, but the entire package is just so well done. I have not had my foot in it all the way yet...
I am now spoiled... everything else is just transportation.
Thanks for the insights and stories. I hope to contribute to the discussion in the future.
