Post Lug Nuts...How tight?

I plan to rotate the tires on my L tomorrow. I'd run to my garage right now and look in the owners manual but it's raining. Anybody know how tight I should torque the lug nuts?

TIA,
Andy

Someone check on this, but I think it is 150ft-lbs.

Rule of thumb with these kind of lug nuts, is tight as possible.

I think the lugs nuts say 100ft/lbls on them... I might be wrong here...

Double check me as well

Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown. 99 Lightning, the best of both worlds!

If they're too tight...won't we run the risk of warping the rotors?

Cool

Hey all,
Went and had a tire rotation and oil change done last week and the mechanic looked at the chart and it said 100 lbs.
Also, after putting in 6 qts. of oil(what the book calls for), he told me that the stick read that it was about 1/2 a quart low.
Don't know what it means but I added the half qt. and everything appears okay....

Cool

The reason for the torque specification is that when properly tightened, the nuts stretch the studs a little and this helps resist loostening. Torque too much and you ruin the studs; torque too little and the nut comes off. For the same reason, NEVER lubricate the studs with anything. The whole process depends upon friction generated by the nut against the threaded stud - don't mess with it!

Okay, I feel pretty stupid asking this, but since I never even used a wrench until I got my Lightning, here goes anyways:

When I changed tires I just used a gorilla wrench, and tightened them as best as I could. I see people at the track doing the same thing. How are you suppossed to know it's torqued to 100 ft lbs?

99 SVT BOLT:
Torque them 100lbs

BRIMSTONE:
I've seen people do the same thing at the track!
If you've done a lot of tire changing, you sort of get a feel for how much to tighten them.
But Don't trust feel!!!
Personally, I don't want to run my truck or any thing else at over 100mph and chance the possibility of a wheel coming loose

(IMHO) USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!!

LugNut Torques:

1999 SVT Lightning: 100 ft-lbs (12mm studs)
2000 SVT Lightning: 150 ft-lbs (14mm studs)

It is very important that lug nut are torqued to spec.

I always re-torque the lug nuts after any wheel is removed. It is rare that a shop will actually torque the lug nuts. Most just use an impact wrench.
