how many '99 L's blew the motor? (testing theory that they have stronger rods)
Shorty,
It sounds like you have a "Fast" problem. It's always been the same for me over here. My new favorite commercials are the VW "Fast" commercials for the GTI. Even though I don't own a VW, it's scary how much I relate to each commercial and having a "Fast" (soul) in my vehicle telling me what to do.
Anyhow, my 99 has 109,000 and still no blown motor and it still runs strong. It's my DD and I love it. I actually get a little depresed when I don't drive it for a couple of days. Anyway, 99's rule

My 2000 has 66k on the clock. Ive been through 3 transmissions, 9 sets of tires, 112 10# bottles of nitrous on boost levels of 8 to 21psi. Currently I have a built/billet bottom end going in. Still have stock block and crank. Never had any trouble out of the engine except 2 blown head gaskets, which is why I decided to go built.
My friend has a 1999. His truck has been through hell and back 4 times. Has less mileage but has more than pushed the envelope on power range. Currently his truck is at JLP for a stroker engine, not because the other blew, just because he wanted a fresh engine.
In summary, 99/00s ROCK!

I have 2000 with 51,000 miles and hundreds of quarter mile passes. 60 to 70 passes on nitrous. The only problem I have expierenced is a right rear head gasket leak. (oil) From what I understand this was a common problem with 5.4's from these years. Other than that no probems engine runs great and is still very strong. I'll be pulling it soon to install my built motor. Im very happy with the amount of abuse it was able to take.
To "test the theory," we need a statisically valid sample group of broken and unbroken 99's and a statisically valid sample group of broken and unbroken other years.
If 1,000 people replied and said "yes, my motor blew" or "no, my motor didn't blow," we might know something about Lightning engine failures in general, but we would still know nothing about the relative strength of 99 rods.

oh I'm sorry did you say something? j/k
It seems the rods can take the punishment thus far.

Red Gen 1 94, is your engine builder in Middle Tennessee?

Yeah, my engine builder is me!!! My good friend John@ Delk Performance in Lebanon hooked me up with machine work, parts, head work, and all the necessarys. I assembled the engine myself though
Where in TN are you at???
