Sorry guys but it is on my truck without any restrictions, and welded it to the stock tips without any problems. I even used the stock hangers. The only thing I had to do was push the two header pipes closer to gether so it would slide on, approx 1/4". Sounds like your muffler guy wants to sell you something. If you would like pictures I can take them and send them via email to you.

1badTK,

My guy doesn't want to sell me anything. I was with him and looking under the truck, there is just no way. Perhaps I don't have the correct muffler!

The 5512 Edelbrock muffler I have has two 2.5" inlets and two 2.5" outlets on each end and is flat in shape, 21" long, 9" wide and 3.5" deep.

The round stock Ford muffler has two offset inlets and two outlets offset in the opposite direction.

There is no way to install the muffler I have and radius the pipe bend correctly so that it mates with the stock tips and you certainly could not use the stock muffler hanger.

If someone is going to sell me a muffler, I would expect it to bolt on the existing pipe setup.

Please send pics to adp@ispchannel.com

Thanks for the input!

Allan, thanks for the tip. I was holding off until our move. US Worst now claims that can't install our phone lines until April 14 at the earliest, despite our initial schedule -- incredible. Sorry about mufflers -- I was really hoping to get a more mellow sound.

Pics are sent, hope they help. Also this muffler was not I repeat was not built for the 1999 "L". It is a universal muffler with dual inlets and out lets that are 2.5"" in dia and has 40% more free flow that the stock "L" Muffler. I found it and bought one to try and it fit rather easy. Hope pictures give your guy some insight to custom installations of mufflers.

Question

1BADTK, could you post the pics here? I was going to order this muff. just because the stock one sounds so weak! I don't want the muffler guy to give me any crapola. How bout drone in the cab? I hate that sound so bad I would just keep the stock muff.

Thanks,Jerry

1BADTK -

Does your Edelbrock muffler installation look like this?

This is a standard 2 in 2 out Magnaflow muffler (2 1/2 inch). The install required bending the exhaust exits a bit, but the stock hangers and tips were used. $130 including installation. Nice mellow sound.

BEWARE! The Edelbrock 5512 muffler does NOT fit your '99 Lightning. My installer would not even put it on. It can not be installed without extensive and flow reducing modifications of the exhaust pipe system. Not to mention thet you can't use stock hangers and stock tips. In short, do not buy this muffler for your truck!

Hey sixpipes, I went to my muffler shop today. He looked under the truck (he had never seen a L) and said "I got just what you need. It was your muffler. He's going to install in the AM. I want to put on SS tips, but he does not have any in stock, he called someone out of town by the name of Muffin, $62.00 each for 3" ss with angle cut rolled tips. Anyone have any idea where I could get something like this in Austin in the AM?

Thanks, Jerry

Jerry,

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the sound. The welds are first class and cost is about half the price of a Flowmaster.

I just lost a whole letter, darn. In short, the Borla system at $399 is far better than any of the hack jobs that are shown. It takes 15 minutes to install and uses all stock rubbers. Don't mess up any of the stock stuff. Just take it off and store them.
