Post Hood Liner

How many Lightning's out there with liners under the hood? Insulation against heat to keep the paint from doing funny stuff.
If so, what color is your truck. I have only seen this under a black truck.

Thumbs up

Hood Liners,
Ford has hood liners that fit perfectly.
They come with the mounting clips as well.

They are made for the expedition which is
the same hood as the Lightning.

Question

I kinda thought that the liner from Exp'y would work, but my curiosity is whether or not a liner is supposed to be on 'L from the factory. Hopefully we will see some feedback as to what other Lightnings have.......

Regardless ****, thanks for the info!!!

I installed a hood liner. Check out: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000001.html

I like it better now that it has been on for awhile.

Is there any reason why L's didn't come with a hood liner?

I understand '99.5 Lightnings don't have them because they were built with a XL grade cab to save weight. Were '00's upgraded to XLT to get the overhead console? My '97 Lariat had one (I should have 'pinched' it).

See my post/link above. The Expedition's liner works perfect. The Navigator's won't fit, different hood.

This may be a dumb question
but I'll ask it anyway.
Would a hood liner keep the underhood temps. higher by not allowing the heat to radiate onto the metal hood and out to the air, kinda acting like a blanket?

Sorry to get into a lightning forum even though I don't have one, but I just wanted to share that I have a 2000 XLT and it doesn't have a liner either.

This is the first vehicle I've owned that didn't have one. I think back to the days of all the mach 1's I've seen with faded hoods and wonder if it would be a good idea to purchase one?

I just finished installing the stock Expedition hood liner on my Bolt. Easy job with the stock push type plastic mounting hardware. One thing I didn't count on was the problem with the Airaid box. What I did to find the correct position for the needed cut-out was to rub chalk over the edge rubber on the air box, then lowered the hood to just make contact. After the cut, I rubbed black silicone sealant over the exposed fiberglass. Looks and works good. Very slightly less noise, but will probably save the paint long term.
