Now that Sal is backlogged
Now that Sal is so backlogged with orders that he can't take any new ones for his filter kits, who has the best price on the Airaid (it's 199.95 here, 219.00 at their website)? Or should I go with the Downs intake? I also need a link to Downs to check them out.

I have the Downs and love it, If you can`t wait for Sal`s which has better mounting points, then get the Downs over the pricey AIRAID...IMOP

Well, unfortunately Mike, from the testing I've done and seen, the Pro-M is the money waster not the filter kits. The Pro-M costs 3 times as much and I've seen better gains from filter kits. All you're really getting with the Pro-M kit is the cone filter. Think about it- "I'll just replace my 80mm MAF with an 80mm MAF". Yeah ok, I don't think so. Filter kits (all brands) have more than proven that they work as good or better then the expensive Pro-M set up for a fraction of the price. And personally I feel(and others have aggreed) that the PSP kit looks "factory" whereas all the other kits look cheap or actually are cheap compared to the PSP kit's quality.

Sal,
Compare the 2 80mm MAF's and you will see they are not the same. The factory MAF has a huge bridge in the center for the hot wire lead and the prom does not. Also, I asked once before for some of you own data and you did not respond. As I said before my own dyno testing has shown that a K&N with no boot is worth about 6rwhp. The prom 80mm MAF showed 22rwhp peak to peak and 28rwhp at one point on the graph. Also, I have no comments on what look factory and what does not as I have not seen any of the kits except in pics. Personally I wish I could run my prom with the stock box for more of a stealth look, but such is life. Lastly I will let my times speak for themselves. 13.16@103.8 on stock goodyear tires running 1.9 60' is pretty darn quick and my truck weighs in at 4815lbs with me in it.
Everyone,
I say do what you want it does not matter to me just trying to tell you about your options. I don't make, sell, or trade anything having to do with lightnings so therefore I have nothing to lose or GAIN if you choose to do either one.
Just my 2.50 and some change.

I admin that I know very little mechanically, but there are two things that I have learned from reading these message boards:
1) do not question Mike Troyer's knowledge of computer chips
2) do not question Sal's knowledge of Lightning mechanicals and performance improvements...
just my $.02

Steve,
I am honestly a little shocked. Don't question Sal on his technical knowledge? I'm sorry, but we all make mistakes....perhaps I am wrong and my truck is a total fluke....dunno. I do know that the last article in either SF or MM&FF showed very similar gains to what I have seen. I realize this is your board and you can do what you want, but I thought the point was to discuss different ideas? Are we to sit back and let whomever preach whatever they want and just accept it as fact? I'm confused. If so then conisder me no longer a member of this board and feel free to lock me out. I was simply trying to point out an alternative to his dilema of which intake mod to do next.

Mike, you stated the cold air kits are a waste of money, but also said you have never seen them, except in pics. Seems if your going to tell everyone they have been snookered by this, you'd have dynoed all of them to prove you did it right. most of us felt the difference when the airbox was removed, not the boot. your times are great, and each truck is different. a year ago, on the dragstrip, trucks were run with no filter at all, and the times did not change, until a conical filter was fitted and the box removed.
