What kind of cleaner???

I was just wondering what kind of cleaner you guys are using to clean your MAF. I just re-oiled my filter and every so often the SES light comes on.l I'm guessing some oil got sucked into the MAF. How do i go about cleaning it and what do i use Thanks

I took mine off and sprayed contact cleaner on the little wire inside and reinstalled it. Some people use a cotton swab and alchohol but you run the risk of breaking the wire.

I use "CRC" QD Electronic Cleaner for my MAF. Comes with a little spray tube. Should be able to get it at any auto parts store.

So you guys are just spraying it on the little hair? Then what? Are you leaving it on there or blowing/wiping it off with something? I have 34K miles on my L and have never even heard of cleaning the MAF. I would like to do this if you guys could hook me up with the info.

Just spray with contact cleaner, let dry 5 min. and reinstall...that's all that is to it. Don't touch the wire! It's soo easy...get in the habit of cleaning every time you change oil and you should never have a problem related to a dirty maf.

I wouldn't think that under normal opertain conditons - as long as you're using a filter that you'd have to clean your MAF very often, if at all. But if for a little extra insurace, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it with some regularity. It's a good idea to do for those that use the K & N Filter cleaner - after you've cleaned and and installed your filter - and ran it for a while just in case you've "over oiled" the filter and some oil residue from the filter may get onto the MAF wire.
