Question Anyone raced a C-5 yet?

hello, just wondering how the lightning stacks up to the C5. And let it be known that I did make use of the search button prior to psoting this message and was unable ot find anything. I know the lightning has more HP than the C%, but the vette is way lighter.....Thanks

pick up this months issue of Hot Rod, they pair-off a Lightning & a C5, pretty good article except 1. the Lightning is 30k-32k where as the corvette is more $42-45k 2. they only made 4000 Lightning (rag says 5000)

Cool

I had a kid at a gas station ask me one time if I was the red L that blew the doors off his old mans Vette. Apparently it can be done. I think Wyldman posted a Vette kill...never did post a follow up on the red(?)head driving it.

Well just for info,I saw a red 2000 vette run a best of 13.2-13.3 all night last night. So depending on the situaltion ,yes the lightning will beat or be the same.On the street its a whole diffent situation.9 of ten street races are alot less than 1/4.The lightning should beat it everytime.

Yeah we all know the Lightning did not do the come from behind heorics to come that close to the Corvette, you can tell from the trap speed times, all from the get go.

Hey Dan,

I raced a 2000 yellow vette on rt. 24 around the home depot. He was in the far left lane and I was in the far right lane and a toyota corolla was in between us. I knew he was going to race because the lane I was in ended after the light.

When the light turned green I took off. The look on the guys face was priceless. I beat him by about 3-4 car lengths. After that he got behind me and never tried again until I was turning off onto wheel road from 24 and he went by like a bat out of hell, knowing I couldn't merge back into to traffic to finish him off once again.

How close the times were really makes me want to get "C5EATR" for tags. I would also have to get a chip and filter. I wouldn't be stock, but you know what, I would also be about $10k richer than the vette owner, and I could go to Home Depot, tow my trailer queen, haul home a new wahser/ dryer set (done it, too), and even go camping in the darn thing!

Cool

I lined up against a C-5 last Friday night in Ennis. The guy had trouble getting launched (look at his 60' time) and was unable to overhaul me by the finish. This was done with only air filter modification & headers (no chip) in fairly high humidity and poor track conditions. I know, not a very good ET for a Lightning. Still, it is interesting to see what the average guy does in the quarter instead of magazine test drivers. I later saw the same vette run 13.4 which would have been an excellent time for a fully modded Lightning under the same conditions.

An exerpt from a previous post:

< Needless to say the Vette had problems at the start. I jumped him and he couldn't recover in time. I was without my chip so I figured I was in big trouble lining up against this guy. Following is information from the run.

Lightning ---------- Vette

.619 (3)----------- .803
2.154 (2) ---------- 2.746
6.015 (3) ---------- 6.609
9.169 (3) -----------9.611
77.61 mph (4) ------ 83.089 mph
11.91 (3) ---------- 12.175
14.210 (3) --------- 14.320
99.87 (4) ---------- 105.33

Parenthesis indicates ranking out of four total runs. High humidity and not a lot of grip. I'm not real proud of these numbers, but it just goes to show you if the other guy messes up at the start, it can be very hard for him to overhaul a Lightning before the finish line. Also interesting to note the Vette was 5.479 mph faster at the 1/8 marker and only 5.46 mph faster at the 1/4. >
