Front & rear rotors

I am going to change my front and rear rotors. How hard is to do the fronts. They look like any 2 wheel drive car I have done before. But I have never done one with ABS. Is it the same as non ABS cars. Or will I be in for a surprise.

Any other tips you guys can guve me will help also.

I bought drilled and sloted rotors. Which way should they point. Pics tomake it more clear. thanks Jason

The ABS is just a ring and a sensor and doesn't create any problems
changing out the rotors. You do need a Torx to remove the fronts, the
rears are either a 10 mm or 12 mm depending on caliper model. I have
a pretty good step by step over on www.lightningrodder.com in the
How To section.

One thing that most people don't realize is that the bolts and torx that
hold the calipers on are NOT too beefy and they don't need to be cranked down
too hard. IIRC, the spec is like 12-20 ft lbs. I would also advise new pads
and bed them in properly.

The rotors SHOULD be marked left and right, but generally the outer edge
of the slot hits the rotor first ... I have a pic around here somewhere.

Good Luck

I had a tough time getting the rears off. It was like they were fused to the axle. Lots of lubricant and finally a big ole hammer and bingo... they came off.

Found the rotation picture ...

This is what governs the left and
right sides in rotors without
unidirectional vanes.

Be sure to check if the new rotors have the exciter rings installed for the ABS. If not, you will need to transfer the old rings to the new rotors. I would recommend having it done by a professional as the rings are fragile and have to be heated up almost red hot for removal and installation. Also, they have to be perfectly aligned with the wheel speed sensor or your ABS will be disabled. Good Luck!

The fronts are pretty straight forward. The hub/rotor is one peice so you'll need to retain the axle bearings and get new cotter pins and possibly new lip seals. The axle nut cap was pretty difficult for me to remove, a set of large jaw vice grips come in handy. Be sure to torque the axle nuts appropriately upon reassembly. I also had problems getting the rears off, and the previously mentioned combination of WD-40 and hammer wacks did the trick.

Good Luck!
