Question 2000 Lightning Stereo Size

Have not gotten the truck yet but I want to get my aftermarket stuff ready.

Is the stereo for the 2000L Truck of a double-din size nature?

Thanks for the info, AtomHeart

By the way did you upgrade the standard setup?

If so, what did you upgrade to?

Hey Atomheart,

Sorry to tell ya but the unit is 1.5 DIN, same as 1.5” in height. This is why I when with a 1 DIN stereo and a .5-inch equalizer.

well...ok...let me clarify...I assume the HOLE is double-din: therefore, 2 single din units will fit in the hole; But the BRACKET inside is 1.5 din. The stereo shop told me the brackets inside would have to be modified, so maybe that's what they meant. But, they didn't specifically mention anything about 1.5 din. I asked the head installer if it was 1.5 din, or double, and which stereo setup I wanted in there...which is TWO single din units...and he simply replied...Yes, the 2000 F150 is a double-din unit, and those two single din units WOULD fit.

Pioneer's website says that its Double-Din, as well. It says that all F-Series trucks are double din.

*shrug* Where did you get info that its 1.5 din?

AtomHeart,
Go to the forum section Audio System--> Other Audio System and look for the posts dealing with this exact question. It is definitely not a drop in type installation. There are good pictures and discussions about the necessary cutting to make a double din work...the hole may look double din but there is stuff in the way behind the stock unit.....here is one of the threads (with pictures):

P.S. Don't ask FordMan about extended warranties :-)

I have to agree with Atomheart that a double din stereo would be best.

I measured CA's and the hole is a double din. I guess it's possible that it mounts as a 1 1/2, but I think a double din stereo would fit best.

yeah, but that looks like you used a KIT, which is specifically what I'm trying to avoid. That little space around the equalizer, that is just plain black plate, would literally make we wanna throw the truck away. I can not abide by that kind of fit and finish. Some people love kits. I'll do whatever I have to do to get 2 single din's in the hole.

If you decide to throw your truck away because of the stereo, let me know. I could use the parts.
