Question Big Bro stole the topic???

What happened to the "Big Brother is Watching" topic? For those who didn't see it it is something that has been in the back of my mind all along. It concerned Ford and this (and other) boards and the posting of mods and warranty issues. We are seemingly more at risk by posting mods in sigs and also having our SVT # as part of record. Anyone???

I was asked nicely by the two people that began the thread (isa4325@flash.net and mphillips@mediaone.net) to remove it from the forum, as they did not feel that the originally posted content was appropriate for this forum. I did not censor or decide to remove the thread on my own.

Of course based on a couple of the emails I just received I am certain that some self-appointed Steve guardians of you will jump to the conclusion that I some hidden agenda or interest to protect. To all of you I say to get your story straight before publicly accusing me or jumping to conclusions.

Feel free to discuss this topic ad nauseum.

Steve

Steve is telling the truth, I did request that he remove the topic even after I deleted my post. It was released in error and should not have been discussed here. We all know that this is a public board and that Ford can and does monitor this area. I for one don't care, its my truck and I will do all I can to improve its performance, after all i did buy it to deliver the goods for my wife as fast as possible, and it works well, or should I say better than it did as a bone stock pickup from FORD.
Do Not Jump On Steve!

Personally I think even if removal wasn't requested, it would have been a good idea to do it anyway. That's such a sensative subject, I'd hate to see Steve suffer any negative consequences just because he's the guy nice enough to run this site.

Just some added information.
I did not post information to the stated thread but part of an IM conversation that I had was. BABolt is in fact mphillips@mediaone.net and I did send an e-mail to Steve this morning at 10:09 AM requesting that the post be removed since it was part of a conversation that I had via AOL Instant Message with Justen Franklin (burninout101). Part of it was transcribed and in turn posted here. It was words of caution to a young Lightning owner in regards to modifications to his truck. I think that we should all be aware that when you start making modification to your vehicles we open up uncharted territory (Warranty Issues). Do you really think that SEMA will stand behind you if an aftermarket part may lead to a failure on your vehicle. Hey! Dream on. Have any of you checked with Superchips lately? Go ask for that RPM program or some other program modification and you will be asked to sign a release. Why do you think that they do that? Enough said.

Ok, so what is the answer to my question? If there is a law that protects us with aftermarket parts, how can Ford or anyone else void our warranty without proving the aftermarket part caused the problem. This is the first Ford product I've owned in 20 years, and it can be the last!!! I have not had my truck back to the dealer since new (12,000 miles ago). The drivers seat has a rod that sticks in your left leg. The front end pops like hell and sounds like something built by American Motors at full lock. The a/c smells bad (musty) if I don't run it for a few days. And the wheel on the right rear will not come clean anymore because of something from the exhast. All this for $30,000.00. And when I go to the dealer to see if they know about these problems, they never heard of any of them! All they want to talk about is that if I put a chip on... no warranty. How bout it Sal (you owe me an e-mail from over a week ago) and Mike from Superchips, will this law protect us or not? Belive it or not I do love this truck.

BaBolt, I know that some mods WILL screw up an engine. But all I want to know about is Sal's chip, and/or the non RPM Superchip.

Thumbs down

i do not write my checks to ford. i write them to my dealer. he makes a lot of profit on our transactions every year, the reason i buy from him, even at a slightly higher price sometimes, is because he takes care of my BBQvsFORD problems, always. the reason i bought an SVT vehicle from him at "MSRP", instead of trying to get 500-1000 off somewhere else, is because, he will take care of a $5,000.00 problem, no questions asked. i could tow my "L" in with a blown piston and a dead tranny and he would replace them both and not even question a chip and air filter on the system. i would get the benefit of the doubt, not FOMOCO. any dealer, or dealer tech that would go after the little guy, for something like a chip or filter, should be identified, so we can spread the word and boycott their business. it's a 2way street. does Downs void your warranty as soon as you leave their parts dept with your new chip/filter combo? doubt it.

BBQ, That is a good question. I bought mine at Dreager Ford in Georgetown, Texas. These guys are paranoid since they got a truck in last month with a broken piston. They thought it was because of a aftermarket chip. This dumb kid was running a chip with no rev limiter and juice. They didn't even notice the blower pulley. (LOL) I only bought mine there because it was one of the last ones available last year.

[Bad Guy Mode]
It is my opinion, if you run a "wild" Chip, one with, lets say a 6200 RPM Red line and you throw a finger follower or other engine component, your mistake, your fault, your bill, I don't care who your dealer is, or where your god is, you did it.
I don't agree with a voided warrenty for the just use of a chip, but these wild custom chips, are looking for trouble.

Wink

As I said before, removing my JBAs tomorrow and replacing the stock headers. Cancelling order for PSP filter. Draining Syntec and replacing with Motorcraft. Do you think FoMoCo will object to my Gorilla wheel locks, or should I put the stock lug nuts back on?

Fact no. 1. You do not have to take your truck to the dealership you bought it from.
Fact no 2. not all dealerships are A**holes about modifications, drive to, don't call some other dealerships and talk to some people there, and find one that's more friendly. There are out there.
Fact 3. Don't abuse the privilage.

Cool

I have complete faith in the way the drive trane of this truck is put together. I find it hard to believe that Sal's chip or one from Superchips is going to cause a problem if it was not there to start with. This is also my first Ford product, so time will tell I guess. In the mean time, I'm sure having fun!

Question

Gosh you guys,
Maybe it's me, which is most likely the case since the last thing I have to worry about right now is WHAT is done to my L. I am still trying to get past the *will I be able to drive it after tomorrow morning* but I am confused on the WHOS...the WHATS I understand...so I guess the whos don't matter, all I know is that I have a good relationship with my dealer and I would hope that they would think of the repercussions if they were to ever deny my claim if something broke. But, it's a FORD and that doesn't happen and I am a girl so I don't break things on vehicles no matter what toys may be present. Hehe *now everybody knock on wood*

CA

Not that it matters now, being as I have a few other posts here, but y'all know who I am, no sig necessary lol
