Cool Dallas/FortWorth 99 or 2000 Lightning Owners>>>>>

A local Dallas/FortWorth performance shop is looking for a bone stock 99 or 2000 Lightning to test a newly released MAF product. The MAF will be installed in conjunction with a custom burned chip. If you are interested or know someone who is give Kevin Elliot a call at 214-349-0991 for more info.

I think I was lucky enough to have gotten pick by these guys, the're backed by Ford and the normal chip and filter may have been raised about 2 or 3 levels. I'll let everyone know.

The're not sure yet but the number may be as high as 340-360 RWHP?

If this breaks out, I'll post the dyno before and after runs.

I spoke to them yesterday, they wanted an L with more than 3000-4000 miles that they could "beat on " on the dyno. ( Mine doesnt qualify ) They also claimed to have already built the fastest L in Texas. I asked what the 1/4 mile times were, they said it haddent been to the track. I told them about Wyldman's run in the 12's and he said oh yeah ours will run in the 12's. HOW can you have the fastest truck in Texas if you have never been to the track ??

They claimed 352 or 362 RWH, with the chip, filter and exhaust they sell. Doesnt sound that impressive. ( NOT much improvement over true stock ) They are working in a new MAF - Chip combo. I havent seen any concerns about the stock MAF, how much room for improvement is there ?

Hey Silver-2000,

If you're looking for a K&N airfilter for your stock air box, I have an extra one that I'll just give ya.

Let me know if you want it, we can meet up somewhere this weekend.

I'll take it. BUT Why are people not using them ?? IS there no seat of pants difference ? Or have you all gone to complete intake systems ?

Hey Sivler-2000,

To answer your question, I read somewhere that a car mag. removed the air cleaner element and ran the exact same 1/4 mile time.

As for my truck, when I first got it I almost tried to return it under the lemon law it was soooo slow 6 foot burnouts @ 105 degrees ect..., but at about 3000 miles something happened, the weather got colder and I put a K&N air filter in. Now the truck is somewhat of a beast easy 100 foot burnouts.

I think it has more to do with the break-in than anything else.

If you would like the element e-mail me @ f_one_car@yahoo.com we can meet up and have a beer or something.

Cool

Silver,

The stock airbox is the restriction. When you get it out of the system and let the blower breath freely, it will gain from 2-4 lbs of boost w/just the cone filter and a straight tube to fit it onto.

MAF changes have been tested and the dyno showed little, if any, gain, even with the "best" ones out. The stock MAF is 80mm and the dyno don't lie. There has been some pretty serious discussion on this issue. I would suggest a quick search on MAF and see the threads.

These trucks come from the factory real tight. They need some miles to loosen up a bit and they just keep getting stronger. I suggest the same as I always do: Drive it like you stole it!

FYI, my last dyno series indicated 446 RWHP (not peak, the flat part of the top of the curve, post lockup) at almost 800 lb/ft of torque. That is with Sal's chip, Sal's intake system, Bassani headers, and 100 hp shot of N2O, no wonder I have traction problems! Thier 'fastest Lightning in Texas' won't even be able to smell the Black Beast's exhaust fumes after 60 feet.

Not a brag, just a fact.

Wyldman

I agree, I asked him why he was going after MAF as a source of improvement. He seemed certain he could get another 10+ HP.

I do give him credit he was trying to get a base line to see what the net increase ( if any ) the MAF would give him.

When are we going to see you and the 800 ft/lb beast in Dallas ?

Sixpipes and I are going to Ennis Friday to watch the SVT Mustang Club race against the Corvette club. They wont let us run with the Mustangs, we should be able to embarrass them between rounds. Hope to see you and some of the other Texas L's there...

Doug

F1,

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy the process. I certainly didnt intend any sour grapes. My bull**** detector went off during my conversation with the vendor and I was merely trying to share some info about the experience. If I were pissed or truely fermenting grapes I would have used his name or the Company name.

I bought the L cause I knew I would enjoy driving it. And before or after your upgrade I would enjoy meeting you and running our L's. Win or lose I just like performance, and sharing those experiences with others with similar interests.

You were the second person to offer me their lightly used K&N filter, which raised my suspicions about the value of that upgrade.

Rather than make more assumptions about me and my intentions why dont you show up at Ennis on Friday, and see the real world.

Doug
