Rain/Snow?

I live in Long Island New York and I'm thinking of purchasing a 01'-03' L. It rains and snows a descent amount over here and this would be my primary vehicle. How well does it handle in wet conditions and in snowy conditions? Am I just asking for trouble with a Rwd truck w/ 380hp and 450 lb-ft of Torque?

thanks, dave.

basically it's scary in any condition thats not ideal... at the lightest sprinkle i've had the rear end walk out on me goin around corners at more than 1/8th throttle... spin the tires etc at 70+ when wet out... you need to practice driving this thing in less than ideal conditions... its tough

Dave I live on L.I. also. I always drive my tuck in the rain. I have never had any problem with spinning out or tires breaking loose in the rain. I wont even try o drive my truck in the snow. If you drive it right you will have no problem. There are guys who chane there tires for winter and drive it in the snow. I would not take that chance with this truck I don't wan to wreck it. so you might want to get a beater for winter times

This is my third winter driving my 03'L. I have it detuned and run Perilli Ice and Snows with 400# of tube sand. The only close call I had was forgetting that I had my winter tires on and taking a exit ramp doing 65. The a$$ end broke loose but I got it back. I also have my truck undercoated since day one and wash it at least once a week.

boo

don't bother driving it in the snow. I bought a 300 dollar **** box that i've had for a couple years now, just to drive in the snow. Turns out I end up driving it in the rain alot too.

It's not even the fact of how bad the truck is in the snow, it's all the other MORONS that can't drive in the snow and put you and your truck in danger.

I drove my lightning the first winter and odly for New England, it only snowed really about 3 times. SUCKED. Took the snow tires and wheels off, sold them, bought a ****box, and spent the rest on mods!!!

i'm almost positive i'm going to get the truck. i'll probably get some nice snow tires like Pirelli's or something. Anyone know the best all season tire to get for the truck. I'm guessing the stock tires aren't the best

Another rain/snow driver here (In England)

I think it is the most dangerous vehicle that I have ever driven in such conditions. (Actually, I think it is the most dangerous vehivcle I have ever driven period! But thats why I like it!) It is just sooo hopeless in bad weather or ice/snow. Or slighly damp, or a bit muddy. Or gravely. etc.. etc..

Go for it! You won't regret it (Unless you don't know how to control the GO pedal!)

I’m think I am going to get an 01'-03' and not trying to pay a dime over 17,500. I own a Mazda6 but it's just too boring, plus I’ve had so many headaches with it. Tranny problems, recalls, fender benders. It’s just bad luck.

My dad is a car nut, so my whole life he's owned some amazing cars and it's finally my time to get a bad *** vehicle.

He currently owns a 71' Plymouth Cuda, 04' Dodge Rumble Bee, 04' Dodge Viper, 04' 40th Anniversary Mustang GT….. And now he is on a waiting list for the new Dodge Challenger. He has the sickness.

If I was in your place I would get something more practical for the conditions. If I didn't live in CA I probably would be driving something else. I'll be going to college soon and if I decide to go to UofO or CU I'm going to sell the truck and get an STi.

Hey 'dtx01', I too live on the Island, and I have a set of stock F-150 sneakers for the winter... I run them from Thanksgiving til St. Patty's Day, and I've never had a problem in the rain. My neighbor, 'Artie54' runs Nitto's in the winter on his L and hasn't had any horror stories that I know of. Just use some common sense while in the white stuff, all should be fine. Elf

Live on long island myself.
Drive in the rain you will be fine, just dont floor it at all or you will spin out, drive normal and you will be fine.
I have driven my L in a blizzard up to Vermont, did it once, wont do it again.
For the 3 or 4 days a year that the roads are covered in snow on long island, buy yourself a cheap beater or take a cab that day.
