Cracked Rim, can it be repaired?
Cracked Rim, can it be repaired?
I have a small hairline crack in my alum alloy rim that has been losing air for 2 years. The leak has been small so have not been able to identify the problem until now. The leak has increased so the tire store was finally able to locate the problem. I am losing about 5 lbs of air per week now.
A new rim is expensive, so if there is a way to repair, that would be ideal. If not, any suggestions on where to find a single replacement would be appreciated.
would somthing like JB Weld fix a small hairline crack like this? The crack is on the inside of the rim, very close to the outer edge. pls advise, thx

I think I would just replace it with a used or junkyard rim depending on which rim you have, if you think a new one is expensive (and they are) imagine how expensive a offroad adventure at speed because of a failed quick fix could be.
Good luck.
Good luck.
It's worth a shot to try JB Weld. Prepare the surface and fill the crack on the inside of the rim. Just use enough as to not affect the wheel balance. Then have the wheel properly balanced once the tire is put back on. Check the tire pressure every day after for a while to ensure no air is leaking. There's guys on here that use JB weld to fill in the silencer holes on their supercharger and haven't had a problem with it coming loose.

I second that !!!! Try EmustangParts on Ebay. I just bought 2 '04 wheels from them at $162.50 a piece. Awesome price. Give them a try.

Tough break!!! I am not sure where you are located, I live in S. Fla & the wife likes to play curb smasher w/ her IS 300 the dealer wanted 510.00 for a new wheel . In Ft. Laud. a company named AAA Wheel Repair charged $80.00 to weld the crack & then they CNC the wheel to ensure it to be true & balance to 0. The owner is cool I actually called ahead to drop off in the morning & picked it same day.Good Luck
