Post Build Numbers and build dates

Hey all, Sal here. I was just wondering if anyone has thier build numbers and/or build dates yet. SVT does have them on file now for about half the 99s, so give them a call at 1-800-FORD-SVT and see if they have it. They will want your VIN to decode. If you know either number, please post it on this thread. It would be interesting to see if any of our trucks are sequential to each other. Here's my info:

Build Number- 416 Build Date- 4/20/99

I just called SVT. They said it would be at least 3 more weeks before they 'got the download from the Oakville plant' on build numbers and dates. BTW - I picked mine up on May 28th.

Talking

Just got off the horn with SVT.
Mine is #247
Built 4/14/99
Not a contest at all, but this is the lowest I have seen.
Now, where are the 1k, 2k, 3k and #4000 at?
All numbers so far top out around the high 600s.

Thumbs up

JoeLightning:
Nice low number. I had forgotten about those with the cowl screw covers (the fast ones).
When you say all required options, did yours come with the bed cover? Mine did not and I still do not have one. Ordered it from my dealer 2 months ago and never heard from them.
Interesting we have about the same mileage.
I am taking a 2000 mile trip to Texas in mine starting the 14th October. Should be interesting, as all but about 400 miles of my total are pretty much on surface streets or 55 mph parkways. I'll finally get to break it in "properly".

Bill, No I don't have the bed cover either. Just like you I was told that the first ones didn't come with them as they had some sort of quality problem. I know I was being somewhat vague about the options, but I didn't get a choice.... it was take them or leave it. I personally wanted all three so no big deal, and I think I'm now happy I didn't get the optional bed cover. My plan all along was to just have it for completeness sake, and replace it with a hard cover. I'm still torn between the Snuglid and the ARE. I had a Snuglid on order, and the place I was going through went out of business before I took delivery of it (no deposit was made, only time was lost). That left such a bad taste in my mouth I haven't reordered with another dealer and to complicate the matter I have read positive responses about the ARE cover but still have not seen one in person. It's still so damm hot out I just haven't been in the mood to go out on the weekend and visit the dealers. Don't mean to get off the subject but does anyone have the right words to sway me toward the Snuglid or the ARE?

Thanks to all of you on this terrific board that have provided info to this lone Lightning owner in the southwest.

JoeLightning,

I'm sure the SnugLid is a fine hard tonneau, but I have the A.R.E. and BedRug combination and couldn't be happier. Did a lot of research before choosing this lid/liner combo.

The A.R.E. lid is a very high quality piece and is guaranteed for life. It comes painted to match your Lightning (you have to give the dealer your paint code when you place your order). Due to its heavy duty construction, it is also stronger than most fiberglass tonneaus.

I also love the way it looks. It covers the stock Ford grey plastic bed rail covers so you don't get that "ice cream" sandwitch look.

It's completely water and dust proof. It locks securely. It raises and lowers easily.

And, A.R.E. is so in tune with its customer base that they advertise right here on F-150 Online.

Mike

Cool

I have the SnugLid and BedRug combo. The SnugLid also covers the bed rails and I ordered mine with the grey carpet under lining.

I also have a 3" gasket around the entire perimeter of the cover, effectivly sealing the bed and not allowing any water in, even in a driving rain at highway speeds. I have seen the A.R.E. cover and it is a quality piece, but I opted to go with the SnugLid because it can attach with a clamp system and there is no drilling required to install it. I really have a problem with drilling on my baby.

Removing the cover takes less than 5 minutes, but does require two people because of the size of it.

I think you will do well with either piece, as they are both nice units. I found the SnugLid for $650 and the A.R.E. was a little higher at $785. And the Snuglid is also gauranteed for life. The paint match was excellent on my Black Beast.

The Snuglid is basically flat on top, no ridges or molded features. I personally think it looks a little cleaner with the lines of the truck.

Just my .02 worth....

Thanks Mike and Chuck for you views on the bed lid. When I had originally ordered the Snuglid I had included the carpet and Snugrip clamp-on options. But I thought the ARE was also a clamp-on system? I, like you Chuck, don't want to dill any holes. By the way, I wanted something to protect the bed, and I was forced to purchase the Ford Duraliner as it was already installed when I went to take delivery (another example of take it or leave it). I had read in a posting here that the clamp on system of the Snuglid didn't work with the Duraliner. I also thought I would switch to the Bedrug no matter what lid I choose.
