Leaking Tranmission Fluid
I have approximately 1300 miles on my 2000 Lightning and leaking transmission fluid. You can see where it has been running over the h-pipe and burned in good.
I noticed a "buzzing" sound as another member mentioned at freeway speeds and after coming back from the local car show this evening I could smell the burning fluid when I pulled my L into the garage.
I'm wondering if the driveshaft is warped/bent and causing the tailshaft problem in the tranmission. So much for the "heavy duty transmission"......
Why did Ford go to the all steel driveshaft instead of aluminum driveshaft the '93 to '95 have?
Anybody else having similiar problem(s)?
Sal.... any thoughts?

I`m not sure what the problem could be, But I believe that if the driveshaft was warped or bent, you would have a bad vibration..... I would bring it to the dealership, let them deal with it.

DEFINATELY take it back to the dealer!
Your symptoms are almost exactly what my truck has been through. If you want to take a tech out for a ride to let him hear exactly what you're talking about, that's up to you. But definately have them take off the driveshaft from the tranny and rear axle, and check for any free play with the trans spindle (I have no idea what they call it, but the 'part that connected the transmission to the driveshaft' was very loose - we could wiggle it around with our hands with little effort).
Be prepared though... I've lost my truck until they can get the parts in, which at this point is next Friday. I hope yours isn't anywhere near as serious, but something tells me it might be. Well, add this to the list of 'bugs' in the 00L's...
Good luck, let me know how it turns out. Likewise, I'll keep the board posted.
Funny, somehow I didn't think I would be paying ~$30K in order to drive around in an underpowered Focus rental car...

PS: From the reactions I got from the crowd of techs at the dealer, I would probably recommend taking your truck in ASAP, and possibly avoiding high or freeway speeds. The techs were pretty much in agreement that there was the possibility of the driveshaft disconnecting from the tranny and sending my truck into a somersault at high speeds. Just a warning, I have no real knowledge to back up that claim.

Thanks ya'll.... I will take mine back Monday not only for the possible transmission problems but a few other things also and mebbe get eveything fixed at once.
Surprisingly this is the worst Ford product I have ever had and have gone through 6 Mustangs, a '94 Lightning(best time was 13.10 @105, NO power adder FFW Ennis 1995) and a '99 SVT Contour.
Have lots of bubbles in the paint.
Oh Well.... Job 1 went to about 2 or 3 now.

jarmstro, sorry to hear of your problems.
Good Luck in getting them fix.
I have a few issues with my truck, but they are so little compared to the how much truck I actual purchased. Basically the rest of the truck made up for any short comings...
Make them make it right.
