our trucks will do it if you overheat them.

Our trucks will also drop cylinders if you nail it @ 32 degrees on the stock motor with a 13:1 AFR, too.

Your best bet is to install a fucus 2.3 litre engine. You should have no problem with clearance and fuel ecomomy would be great.

fuel economy would suck with a focus engine.

Sure it gets 25mpg in a 3300 lb aerodynamic focus, but make it push a 5300lb brick down the highway and see how much fuel it uses.

actually, highway miles would be pretty good i would bet while cruising at a constant speed, but now getting there, you would probably have to floor it for a couple minutes to get to highway speed, and that would suck down some gas

From what I've read it hasn't greatly improved their fuel mileage at all! It may be more of a "sales" tool! My neighbor has a Hemi in his double cab and gets 11 or 12 mpg city driving as I do!

That "feature" does indeed increase milage. However a properly geared motor and a easy right foot is far more effective for the avg driver.

What your Dodge friends are referring to is cylinder deactivation. It improves gas mileage on the highway by 1-2mpg on the highway on the 5.7 Hemi. The 6.1 Hemi does not have it.

It may surprise that we have it applied as torque reduction on the 1-2 shift in which the computer shuts off fuel and spark to one cylinder bank. So there you go, we have had it since 1999 on the Lightning.

Tell the Dodge boys that they don't need our type of cylinder deactivation because their 5.7 Hemi does not make enough torque to justify it...

Is it true that one cylnder shuts off? I was reading a post from a man that had bought a 5.4 supercharged engine out of a rolled hd f150 and the pictures showed the #7 plug to have deposits on it that was not on the other plugs, could that explain it?

SO what all of you are basically saying is that it does not help? I am talking about higway not city also not much to be gained there and I have a very light foot and soft top yet still can only manage a 16mpg on all higway without boost on a WHOLE tank?
I figure it might be something like an economy program but better?
Maybe I am just wishfully thinking if it is not possible

I just emailed JDM about this same topic, I wanted a fuel saving program for long trips. They can't do the cylinder drop out, but they can increase the timing for fuel savings, this obviously would be catostrophic if you were to do a kickdown on the highway, but I wanted something for a long trip with the cruise control set. Not sure how much it would help as far as MPG but any increase on a long trip would be better. No I don't need to get a 4 banger if I want fuel economy, I already have a beater car, I like to take the truck on long trips and theres no sense in pissing away gas if I'm going to set the cruise at 65-70 anyway. I basically burn through 1/4 every 50miles right now.

Thats f'n rediculous . I rag the hell out of my truck when ever I get the chance and its making 450rwhp on the street program and I'm still getting around 100 or so miles to 1/4 tank. You either have a serious beast of a L that probably needs to be trailored some fuel issues or a f'd up tune. Good luck with the fix.

One bank, not one cylinder.
