Nice kill
I was driving down the highway about 85-90mph.I see a taurus sho behind me watching my every move.I keep looking to see what he is up to and here he comes.I saw him start coming up real quick.I waited for him to pass me and them i gave it to her!Within 3 seconds we were even.after that i just walked by 6-8 car lengths to 135mph.The reason i let him go by is so he could see the real power of the lightning. It is pretty impressive when you come up on somebody at a high rate and they squash it after and instantly walk away!I slowed to 80 and they crused along by SLOWLY with the thumbs up!
Did they really bait you in anyway? I'm just curious. I have a '97 SHO. My wife drives it. Actually, its a very nice car and we're happy with it.
BUT... ;-) There is NO friggin' way it would keep up with a Gen 2 Lightning. It _will_ keep up with any stock Impala SS out there...actually it will outrun the ones I've encountered. It will run neck and neck and then pull away on the top end from a stock Gen 1 Lightning. I've never had it to the track, but my Vericom says 14.9s. I figure in reality its good for 15.1s or so.
But, I'd be a fool to try and mess with a new Lightning, though.
However, you got to experience what I enjoy most about the new Lightning...passing gear at highway speeds. The truck is an absolute animal when it downshifts and takes off.

Nice kill, It must have been one of the older ones right? I ran my truck from about 70 mph against a new taruas SE (215/220ftlb?), for some reason it did not kick into 2nd, guess I was going too fast. Anyhow, I just walked him until I decided to shut down. Pretty fun, I had studded tires, too, about 3.5 inches taller than stock. I can only imagine from a stop...
I agree with Wes. I have owned a black '90 SHO since new and understand that stock '89-'91 5-speed Gen I SHO's (with the Yamaha DOHC V6) are a bit faster than the newer V8 engined cars (all are autos) but that the newer ones are smoother and nicer overall. Even with my lite mods (chip, K&N, Borla cat-back, SVO shift rods, etc.), however, I would never even imagine that I could take out a '99 or '00 L. Like Wes, though, I have shut down my share of Impala SS's (they've also beat me a time or two). I tell 'um that if they can't even beat my 10 year old Taurus, they sure as heck don't want to even consider meeting my '99 Lightning.
