Post Whose gas to use

This is the first time to use high test gas. Are all brands equal, or go with who has the cheapest hight test gas.

RollnLock
BedRug
Airaid

Any major brand but Exxon from what I was told by superchips people. We have good gas here in Fl. compared to the winter gas other places get. Congrats on your new toy!

Question

OK....Since I'm from Houston, I have no concept of winter. I've heard this term "winter gas" used a couple of times on this board. Could someone please explain.

Thanks,
Glen

The state government or federal requires an additive to be added during colder weather to help control polution problems.

If I remember college chemistry, it has to do with the vapor pressure of gasoline at different temperatures (its ability to evaporate). In the summer when the ambient temp is higher, they have to add an ingredient to keep the vapor pressure down to keep fuel lines from vapor-locking.

BTW they add MTBE or alcohol to gas in winter to try to keep emissions down, the computer realizes there's less btu's in the gas so it richens up the mix-so milage drops, you use more gas, and net effect on emissions is nil. This is a perfect example of your government at work.
