Gas prices (rant)
Hey Steve Bopp. I raced the lightning against my C5 a while back. The lightning was all stock with about 1300 miles on it. The C5 is stock except for a twin flow air intake that adds about 15 hp. It is also a six speed. The corvette only had about 1500 miles on it, and I think its gotten faster now with 3000 miles on it. I jumped out ahead of the lightning right away and pulled about 5 lenghths in maybe a little over a eigth of a mile when the person with the lightning let off cause of some flying loose gravel. I either have a slow lightning or a fast C5. Hope its a fast C5!!!!! When I get the chip and filter in I will race them again. I think the C5 will still win cause it feels a lot faster.
Oh yes...right, raise taxes, big government, down with free enterprise, socialism at its finest!

I guess we are lucky down here in Houston. While I've seen 1.55 at the freeway stations, I'm still able to find 93 for 1.46. We have 92 and 93 around here.I didn't even know they had a 91. Sort of a different thread, but what's the best gas mileage you have obtained. On one tank driven a lot in the rain, where I had to drive slower, I got 13.5. My average is probably 12.5 but I drive usually 100 miles a day and it's high way average for the most part.
Still HOT. SoCal has caught up(?)to the rest of the country; $1.65/gal. Are prices going to level off soon? Are you guys higher than this price now?

PD,
Read my last post again. SoCal has caught up, to $1.65. $1.49 was on 2/17 (first post)at Manhattan Bch Bl and Inglewood, which is still the cheapest by the way.

Well It's "up"(it's all relative) to $1.53-1.57 here for 93,my place w/ the 92 is still ok at $1.49.But I heard a rumor that the prices will continue to climb all spring before leveling off somewhere around 2 bucks for regular in the summer! Did someone mention getting a loan to fill the tank??? Well here it comes!

Sorry, but back to the top. Any ideas on what economic dynamics are at play here? The Saudis and Kuwaitis are limiting production to 200M barrels a day; for what reason? $$$. Should our response be different the next time they need us to get their chestnuts out of the fire? Here in SoCal, I saw the first $1.99.9! The pundits say that there is no end in sight.

Its getting bad, and the Clinton adminstration feels that its not an issue worth getting involved in. If it keeps up, the best way to get relief is to write your Congressional rep and encourage them to take action to remedy the problem (releasing from the national reserves, pressuring other producing countries such as the non OPEC members in S. America)
High gas prices affect America's traditionally high mobility as well as impacting consumer spending by reducing discretionary spending.

Thought I was complaining earlier - Now it's $3.22 per US gallon here in beautiful downtown Canada. What am I complaining about - I don't even have a Lightning yet - well I do, but it's 7.2 Volt. But seriously, my wife's new T/A uses premium as well.
Oh well!! If you can't do the time, don't do the crime - or something like that!

GOOD NEWS!
Relief in sight...
-Oil prices took their steepest one-day dive in nearly a decade
Wednesday, plummeting more than 9% on strong signs OPEC nations are about to
loosen their tight grip on production.
Analyst said the slide might signal the end of a roaring bull market
that has seen crude prices more than triple since December 1998.
Gasoline prices dived 7% too, although it may still be months before
consumers see relief at the pumps. The plunge in petroleum products also
dragged heating oil down 9% and natural gas 10% on the New York
Mercantile Exchange.
Only a day after crude soared past $33 and $34 a barrel for the first
time since 1990, investors got caught up in a selling frenzy after
inventory data and Iran's evident capitulation to its OPEC partners on a
significant oil increase pointed to an easing of the world supply crunch
soon.-
