Blinker problems

I have a 2000 lightning and just over the weekend, my right blinker started blinking twice as fast as the left blinker. Does anyone know what might have caused this, and what it would take to fix it. The blinker still works, it just blinks really fast. Thanks.

Play with the Hazards button (turn on/off several times) see if that changes anything. Weird but my 95 GT and 98 Ranger both had issues with either blinkers or tail lights not working. Resulted in the Hazards switch acting up on both vehicles.

You have a bulb that is dead. Check your brake lights as well as your blinkers. When one of them goes dead it reduces the amount of resistance in the system, thus making the blinkers operate faster.

The burned out bulb will be on the Right side.
If the left side blinks faster, the burned bulb would be on the left.

If both sides blink faster, you're just paranoid.

This happened to a friends Lightning. All the bulbs were ok,turned out to
be in the steering column. The 99-00models were bad about doing this. If you
take the top and bottom cover off your column, you should see the connector
coming apart. Try tilting your wheel with the blinker on,does it start blinking
differently while moving the wheel up and down? If so,its in the column.
Check the bulbs first!! Thats the easiest fix. If you dont feel comfortable with fixing the column yourself, call your local Ford dealership and any tech there worth his salt, knows what to do. Hope this helps.

I just replaced an aft turn signal this past weekend because I noticed the blinking going twice as fast; burnt bulb. I know for a fact that thats one of the reasons. Good luck and let us know what you find!

Good luck with it. I have had the same problem for over a month and I have yet to find a cause.

I'm kinda glad to see your response, as my 02 L started doing that this fall a couple months before I put it up, it was driving me nuts with never knowing if My lights would work when i needed them
