Question Any such thing as a "Thunder"?

This may have been discussed awhile back, I don't know. If so, please forgive me.

Is there any truth to the rumor that in the near future there will be an Expedition powered by the Lightning powerplant? Anyone have any idea on cost? I figure $40k MSRP.

Thanks,

Wes, didn't they try that with the 1st gen. lightnings, with the full sized bronco/thunder, and only a couple of test vehicles were produced. although, people would probably buy an expy/thunder, i don't know if something that big and heavy will give the svt boys, anykind of numbers they can be proud of. Ford can't be making a lot of profit on svt vehicles, but they sure can be proud of them.

If Ford would make a 2-door Expedition (Bronco) and "Lightningtize" it, I would buy it in a second.

Wes,
From what I have read and found here on the board the Expy "Thunder" is probably gonna' happen.Release is supposedly late 2001. It will feature the same specs as our L's and to my shagrin it will not be 4wd or awd. I was hoping for a nice, quick suv to go w/ the L. Now I am leaning toward the Mercedes ML AMG,it boasts 400 horses and is 4wd,it's the 57 G's that are holdin' me back until say ohhh about the time the SVT Expy hits the showrooms !

I saw a pic of the L-Expy in Automobile mag. about 3-4 months back, maybe longer. I believe it also said that it would be a possible late 2001 model.

If Ford DOES come out with this thing (hope hope). I will tell my sister to trade in ther 97 Lexus 450 (big ugly SUV) for that thing. She really like my Lightning, all 3 miles that she drove it. When I told her about this rumor, her eyes got real big. That would be fun.

Thumbs up

Hey thanks for the response guys.

Guess I need to just sit tight a bit. I'm also very interested in the '01 Mercury Marauder. Looks like it might be a nice full-size RWD machine that puts out 300+ hp.

But, if I had to choose, I'd take an Expy with the Lightning powertrain. I certainly can't afford a $57k Mercedes.
